The Honda 420 was its replacement for the 350, so remember this when your comparing price. I would compare a yam 350 to a Honda 420 and a yam 450 to a Honda 500.

Yamaha 350 has rated towing weight of 500kg
Honda 420 rated towing weight of 385kg
Yamaha 450 rated towing weight of 600kg
Honda 500 rated towing capacity of 600kg.

I haven’t looked at a 420 for a while but they are definitely lighter built than a Yamaha 450. Should make them easier on fuel though
soon after we got the 450 irs i did the bike ciurse, there was a neaerly new 420 there, had the ineviatable run off up across the field.
the 420 only just edged it

I’m very surprised by that, the kodiak 450 we had in February was rapid! It took a few days to get used to how quick it would actually go.
Unfortunately the 2013 Honda 420ES 2wd and the 2015 420 ES/DCT 4wd we’re both in for service but the yam was pulling the snacker full through gateways the 4wd Honda couldn’t pull it empty.
It was nice to have the exhaust on the right side to so you didn’t get choked in fumes or burn your elbow when unhitching trailers like on the hondas. The IRS was incredible - the hondas are rough as F in comparison. The turning circle on the Yamaha was similar to the 2wd Honda if not the same where as the 4wd Honda’s turning circle isn’t far off what my Isuzu pickup is!

im surprised too.. had the yamaha 450 kodiak and the honda 420 manual on demo at same time. had them both side by side on a long hill and the yamaha pulled away...came back an swaped riders over just to be sure and did it again , the yamaha pulled away from it again. its seems to have a very smooth power curve .

thats how it was on the day, could visably make up ground as the honda changed up each gear.
biggest advantage is its fairly idiot proof for multipul riders.
we got a 250 yam with a gearbox which is a terrible thing in comparison

Yes never thought I would have a cvt, but the dealer left me a demo of Kodiak for over a week. The result was I bought it off him. It’s a pleasure going round checking and shifting livestock. It cruises along but has a good turn of speed when needed. Wouldnt go back to manual shift now

What gearbox did the Honda have? We have a DCT/ES one and it’s horrendous - the worst bike we’ve ever had by far! I know someone who had the exact same model a few weeks after us and they swapped it for a manual foot pedal :0
Yep DCT/ES, not impressed. You never know when its going to change gear and just revs up, Reverse bad to get quickly. Got parked up and went back to the old 500

Right lads done the demo and really like the bike
took it places my wee 250 wouldn’t look at but is still a little bit more price than the Honda so need to make my mind up time

I traded in didn’t get a straight price it’s a 450 with power steering has heated grips side flairs and road registered
Came about 300 more than the top 420 spec but the Honda doesn’t have the winch the Yamaha has as standard but didn’t price it on the Honda
