This field ploughed up very loose in the autumn and despite being rolled in,it wasn't very tight. we should have rolled it again in the autumn post em but didn't. The recent frosts have heaved the ground up to the extent that you can easily push you heal in 3-4 inches I places.
I will be going over it today with N and polyS.

Yes hopefully. We normally try to put the rolls over everything we can in the spring as long as it's not to tall.
Luckily it's the only bit like it. It looked fine until the frosts.

Ours is 2 row. Cassia

Fair enough - no mention of varieties in this thread - I just thought the Hyvido Grower's Guide was a discussion point. The emphasis there is on encouraging and keeping the tillers. Their seed rates are much lower hence the need to feed it hard & early for those tillers.

How much do you put on first application?
I usually put on first N end of Feb 100Kg N 80 units of 27N 10SO3
same again after 3-4 weeks
Varieties are KWS Kosmos (Conventional 6 row) and Bazooka (Hybird)
Used to grow a lot of Cassia but just how it worked out with seed carried over from Wet Autumn 17
I treat 2-row and 6-row same, makes no difference here contrary to what experts say.

Same here. I used to do three splits on the advice of others. Id go with 40kg early then two bigger doses to get to my desired total but I never felt my barley was quite thick enough and it didn't seem to perform as it should. Since moving onto a big dose early yields have noticeably improved.

All the YEN work points to high biomass being the driver for yield.

Too wet to roll here...
Was holding off on WB N for a bit, did OSR monday but aim to go by end of the month. Manganese may be more beneficial before then...........
