Yet again pickups!

Sorry. It's using less diesel than the shogun (2011) 3.2l, 4 cyl. I would be lucky to get 24mpg in that and it was a swb. Towing was much worse.
I financed the Amarok through XLCR vehicle lease. Good deal was struck -but I am a partner in a business who has another 6 commercial vehicles through them and I know one of the directors socially. Every little helps!

What you guys finding best contract hire or lease finance with ballon payment at the end or just go change for another ? Have a vehicle to part ex / sell
I like to own the vehicle outright at the end of the three yrs so always buy on finance. It's no cheaper than hiring / leasing but gives you the option to run it for a couple of extra years if money is tight. Got an almost five yr old dmax here. Cost me nothing to keep it for the two extra yrs. Ok I know it will have depreciated a bit but I haven't had to pay anything out iyswim.

Same here really. Always bought with finance and own vehicle at end. Hopefully get dmax sorted with the regen issue and run it on until I'm ready to swap. Warranty doesn't run out untill next April. Servicing and paid to have dpf cleaned out have been only costs. Not made my mind up what to swap it for anyway though a Ranger is a strong contender. Costs whatever you do

They're doing some cracking deals on brand new but old 2.5 model Dmax at the moment. My son just bought one for £1500 less than I paid for mine in Jan '13. Almost tempted to change mine too :scratchhead:

I expect (hope) they'd have sorted the dpf issue and diesel getting in the sump issue with later ones. The throttle lag with auto gearbox I don't know if they sorted? I kind of got used to that but an annoyance none the less. Otherwise been a good tow vehicle and pleasant enough to drive. Always done its job.

Ours is a manual. I believe the new 1.9 ones are geared lower than the 2.5 which would be a big improvement. That is my biggest gripe with mine. Like you say, been a very dependable truck.

They lent me a 1.9 manual last week. 1st gear is very low. I imagine it'll help with pulling away with loaded trailer. Low down torque was poor but started to pull once revs got past 2000rpm. I'd want to try one with a loaded trailer really. Couple of months back they lent me a 1.9 auto too. It wasn't that bad and with empty livestock trailer it surprised me somewhat. Much preferred it to that manual I had last week but each to their own. Would have been nice to have the option of a diff lock on a 'work truck'. Least it's a reasonably priced option on the Ford.

Have heard many say the auto is better for towing but never tried one myself. Mine's going for a service on Thursday and they've said I can have a demo to try out.

The chrome roll bar, or 'sports bar' as Ford call the useless lump, is a £600 delete option on the Ranger Limited
Most are fitted with the simple ladder rack around these parts.

A high proportion of Rangers seem to be the top Wildtrack versions fitted with sliding bed covers and 3.2 engines

The chrome bar only makes you look like a pikey IMO.

I think it is better for towing. I guess I've got used to auto's now. Never would touch an auto until I went to California (not the campsite near Yarmouth  ) and hired a Ford Explorer which was auto. After that I was sold.

If you look on Auto Trader there are a lot of nearly new/new Wildtracks and a lot come with the sliding cover. I looked at a Wildtrack but would have to remove the sports bar to fit a hard top.

Of the few rangers around here most are 2.2 but there are a couple of 3.2 which are limited specs probably because there's not much point buying a wildtrack with sports bar and roller top if you're going to put an Ifor type canopy on it?

Roller tops don't come as standard but the sports bar thing on Wildtracks does

Talking to Ford dealer and he mentioned a 5 month wait though a wildtrack he could get out of the 'chain' sooner, possibly.

There are Rangers about here but go to livestock market and carpark full of d-max's.

5 months is the wait for a new factory order. However there should, if Ford UK and their dealers have done their jobs right, be plenty of unsold factory orders in the pipeline to supply the market with popular specification vehicles fairly consistently. Certainly there are some stocking dealers around.
