Is there an age limit on tyres?

The build date is always stamped on the tyre sidewall and the recommended age limit is something like 5 years if stored in the light I think. I would say that six or seven is the absolute limit. The rubber gets hard and loses flexibility and grip as it ages and ultimately deep cracks will appear and the tread will part with the carcass.

Have heard many say the auto is better for towing but never tried one myself. Mine's going for a service on Thursday and they've said I can have a demo to try out.

I have salesman 1.9 Utah. Seems a few have driven it locally and came across two today. Both have old DMax's and both weren't very keen. Mrs Rascal doesn't like it saying the engine is noisy, there is more road noise and it wallows about. Funny thing was stopped at local ag merchants and a lass there had demo'd it. First thing she says "It felt like a boat wallowing about". Mrs Rascal says she preferred the Ranger.

More time with the manual 1.9 and bottom gear annoys the hell out of me. I know why it's so low but really is a pillock if you aren't towing. Under approx 2000rpm it is pretty gutless but get over that and it starts to pull.

We had a 1.9 Utah auto on demo. I thought the engine coped but was strained when towing a loaded trailer. I liked the auto box though, far better for setting off at junctions and hill starts than my 2.5 manual (which is geared too high), but it sounds like the 1.9 is geared much lower. IF I buy another it will be a 2.5 auto. I think I'd rather buy a 3.2 ranger than a 1.9 Dmax.

Edit: Can't say I noticed much wallowing and the demo truck was much quieter on the road than mine which has A, had a hard life and B, got a set of chunky tyres on which are very noisy.

I've now got a D-Max Yukon 1.9 manual on loan and took a couple of loads of cattle to market. Heaviest would be 6 steers weighing about 400kg each and trailer about 1200kg so around max weight. I thought it coped reasonably well so long as you kept the revs up. Change from first to second too soon on an incline and engine would really struggle. Once revs over around 2000rpm, away it went. I've asked them to find me an auto to demo this week as will be moving cattle again. Once rolling engine was fine and settled down nicely. Shame it seems to lack torque low down.

Fuel consumption is good. tripped it before going on a 50mile round trip to pick up a half ton of calf milk powder. According to computer it 36.7mpg. Running around locally where my d-max does 20 to 22mpg (and less) this one is doing just over 31mpg. Certainly don't seem to be burning through as much diesel with it whatever the computer says.

My D-Max is still away. Saw it last week when I swapped loan trucks. 3 mechanics bent over engine studying a phone on top of engine. Either they were downloading instructions or studying porn ;) Had a look and head was still on. Don't know if it had been off and was back on again.

A friend has just taken delivery on friday a Navara Teckna at £308/month inc VAT on a 3 + 35 deal, 15,000 miles per year. Its fully loaded spec wise. I think thats not a bad deal considering his total payments by the time its finished will be £11,704 of which he will claim £1950 back in vat meaning its cost him £3251 per year. He'll have to pay for 2 services within the lease term and do the tyres.

Yes because if its not serviced it will effect the warranty which lasts the full term of the lease. He was looking at fixing the service costs with the local dealership this week as apparently you can buy a package.

Anyone got a 1.9 Dmax then? They're doing some good deals on the last of the 2.5's.
had one on demo last month for a day or 2. spent some time towing cattle around and I have to say after initially being sceptical of the 1,9 engine it actually surprised me, new auto gearbox is much better than my 65 dmax but I do like the look of the new l200 so had a terst drive of that yesterday and really liked it. yes towing figures are down but that's all just a paper exercise anyway as we all towed over 3 tons when they were only rated to tow 2.5 in the old days anyway. I found the build quality inside much nicer but will be a big decision as the dmax is such a workhorse but I have to say for a new generation truck it does guzzle and for all the hype about fuel economy of the 1,9 engine it only actually achieved 1mpg more than my 2.5.

I'm amazed you fellas get demo Utes & take them home & tow trailers with them & have them for a few days . .

Bloody hell, a quick lap around the block is about all we'd get away with as a test drive . . .

Barely even got that when i wanted to buy a top spec ford ute. Dealer was very reluctant to let me have a go in one.

Is the l200 not ment to be good on fuel

As I said, a quick lap around the block is all the dealer would offer, certainly no way can I imagine them letting you take a vehicle home for the night or putting the maximum capacity trailer behind it . . .

Err, I've never had a demo tractor either for that matter. Normally have to order them 6 months in advance for shipping . . .

VW UK were giving up to one week demos on Amaroks, bloke came and delivered it and collected it. Didn’t care if it was filthy or empty at the end, just had to insure it.

A few months ago my wife was interested in a couple of S/H Toyota Prados that were sitting in a dealers lot. She had to literally chase the dealer down. Had a look at the cars. Asked if anymore coming in. Never heard back. No follow up.
Same dealer had a S/H Landcruiser trayback ute with a big price sticker on the window, but small note in dashboard saying "not for sale" WTF? "It's been sold, just waiting for finance to come through, but will give you a ring"
"Ok, thanks, looking for a S/H Cruiser, here's my number"

Never heard anything since . . .

Last time I bought a new Landcruiser didn't even do a test drive, just rang about 5 different dealers with what I wanted & bought the cheapest quote. Although I'll admit, I wasn't comparing vehicles, just dealers.
Will do the same next time I buy new . . .
