Yet another mass shooting in the USA

Absolute insanity. Teachers enter that career to teach. Not carry a gun in case of the need to one day shoot someone in a classroom. Utter insanity.
Quite agree and the supreme irony is that Rambo Trump was speaking in a hall where guns were totally banned, enforced by the secret service for his safety, seems guns are potentially dangerous after all !!

If they make the schools like a fortress all that will happen is the next time it'll be a school bus or buses.

Then it'll be giving them a military escort to school 😥

Quite amazing he couldn't buy a beer but could buy two military weapons.

An 18 year old with an assult rifle, what could possibly go wrong.

Even Australia tightened up after their last shooting as we did, but sadly I expect nothing will change !!!

my young fellow recons that his teachers would have half the class shot with the stress that some teachers are under when he was in school, Not all of them are stable either, And Trumps solution then I suppose, 'arm all the students', what crowd of lunies

Much of this started with the “AR-15” fad. Some less than stable folks seem to fetishize these weapons, then they can’t stand but to go out and see how they can be used. I don’t think a model 700 Remington has the same attraction for them.

I would start with banning the sale and possession of large magazines. Hard to kill so many with a five round magazine. Maybe even getting rid of detachable magazines.

We had a Memorial Day get together in the neighborhood last night, several gun owners there. Not one had any support for the “tactical cool” look. They would all support some sort of curtailment.

I don't think it is a particular weapon nor magazine size that is the issue. It is the unfettered access to weapons that are concealable and designed from the trigger up to kill human beings though I admit is a baffling state of affairs. Many European countries permit access to similar weapons- I have fired many of them myself on weapon ranges in Poland and the like. Similarly, the Swiss certainly used to allow home owners to store a full blown battle rifle, I'm not sure if they still do but even so, there does not seem to be the same level of violence/mass murders as in the USA.

As I wrote earlier, I am sure the bulk of legal gun owners in the USA would be all in favour of tough legislation that kept kids, criminals and those with mental illness away from weapons.

I agree with him 100 per cent. Teachers need guns. Imagine the improvement in discipline in schools if teachers were allowed to pack heat. Child forgets to bring in their homework blow the little git away it will certainly improve the attitudes of the others. Then again maybe you’d need to arm the kids just in case you had a rogue teacher. Still playtimes would be so much more fun when playing war with real guns.

Think about the educational benefits of armed teachers.
'If I fire 7 hollow points from my 9 bullet magazine would I still have enough left to take out the four low life's coming at me from the alley or would I have to use S&W in my ankle holster?'
You've got practical trigonometry with regard to the angles needed to hit your targets and don't forget biology as you need to know the vital organs to shoot at.
It's never ending but a bit sick so i'll stop.

That seems a sensible place to start, there's no point trying to aim for British style gun control in the US, I think that's what some of us well meaning Brits don't get, try for that and there's zero chance of any progress not that I expect a thing to change tbh 😥

The Republican party has played the, "Their coming to take our guns" card very well for many years.

An assault rifle ban would be the right way forward but probably has zero chance of becoming law.

Social media and live streaming is also playing a roll I suppose, they think their some kind of Rambo hero somehow.

Saw a report from a gun show and apparently there's a kids version of the AR15, smaller and lighter so you can copy what Daddy does 😳

Seemingly that type of message is in the advertising.

Another shooting today-three plus the gunman at a hospital.

Probably won't even make the headlines in the States
Sadly very true 😥

I watched that young man in court that did the Buffalo shooting yesterday and I just can't understand why anyone would want to do such a thing.

I suppose hatred and some bizarre idea he'll be famous, probably not even saying his name like in New Zealand would be a good idea.

Perhaps they should have day trips for some of these extreme people to an American maximum security jail, a couple of nights might help them pick a better path.

A complete nightmare for the victims, their families and his family.

I personally think primary schools should do trips to prisons to let them see what it’s like (not easy prisons) don’t know what age they should be
Same with showing some gruesome car accidents
I know it’s not nice but I remember seeing a very nasty accident when I was maybe 10 I was in a lorry which had very minor damage
I’ve never forgotten seeing people covered in blood and trapped in cars

When our son started driving I took him to the local salvage yard, to get some wheels. We walked around the wrecks and I pointed out the broken windshields, dashboards, crushed tops, motors in the driver seat and asked him how those folks fared.

I like to think it maybe soaked in.
