My missus tells me she just heard a guest on t'radio 2 show assure listeners it was better to eat turkey at Chrimbo than beef or lamb...because of the carbon footprint.
(I've nought against turkey farmers, but this is so obviously bollix)

Then right now came a half ersed apology due to a large number of immediate complaints (well done those who phoned straight in)

But still the lie was left unchallenged. (you can't expect the presenters to know every detail...but given it has now reached the 'norm' to say such things, shouldn't they be more on it)

I don't understand why my industry representatives/levy boards aren't bringing lawsuits. The guest has just defamed me and mine, reinforcing an oft repeated lie.
 
Funny how I've never seen anyone here complaining about the BBC's anti Palestine, Russian, Chinese or even Corbyn bias. Seems it's only bias if it personally affects you.

Problem with all the mainstream media is who controls the narrative, there is no such thing as independent reporting. If someone sends the BBC a press release to say it's raining and another sends one to say it's sunny they should be poking their head of the window and telling us which is true, not quoting the one that's fits their agenda.

Science seems to have moved on , even the original scientist that claimed livestock were more damaging to the atmosphere than transport has said he got his calculations wrong & regrets publishing his papers, because as he said at a recent speech in California " once it's out there it's hard to take it back "
Also the science behind eating less meat for health reasons has recently also shown to be wrong .
So why still the push to reduce Beef?
The European food agency has made it clear that its about a handful of multinational firms that are trying to influence the way people eat.
They don't want Beef & Lamb farmers spending their money locally, it's about more industrialised farming with high inputs that multinationals can make money out of.
They want full control of Agriculture from seed to plate & they don't care what they destroy in their quest for increased profits.

Breakfast on BBC this morning featuring an article by a DEFRA 'scientist' vegan parroting the eat less meat to save the planet mantra. Joseph Goebbels was right when he said repeat a lie often enough and the people will believe it. There will be a generation of impressionable young women who are taken in by vegan propaganda and avoid meat and dairy who will have long term health problems, particularly fertility and then osteoporosis after the menopause.
It takes millennia of evolution to change the physiology of a species to adapt to a radical change in diet. Omnivore to herbivore in a generation is not a healthy option.

Heard it myself. She said beef and lamb has 4 times the carbon footprint of turkey:mad:

Our doctor is also a friend, she says that she is seeing more and more cases of illness due to malnutrition than ever. This is entirely in the new veggie/ vegan population. They are not eating properly and getting issues with deficiencies.

Tbh I was surprised that Cerys Matthews was on as a guest the other day and in conversation ' not advocating' meat but then I suppose she gets a wage from them for doing a bit of DJ work as well.

What’s are the numbers for turkey vs beef ? I thought poultry was lower carbon / more efficient meat to be honest ?

As always there's never a simple answer like the 'experts' have us believe. Grass fed, extensive UK systems can be very beneficial to the environment

They will drive UK farmers out of business, all food will be imported and there will be no control whatsoever over how it's produced. Think Trump or Putin will take any notice of how the BBC wants farming to be done when they are supplying all our food? Doubt it!

The carbon footprint of beef depends on the production methods, and as always those promoting an argument will use the worst case scenario, so the anti beef brigade use the figures for producing beef on a feedlot in Brazil against a turkey raised in the Mid West USA with grain and soya on its doorstep.
However start comparing Pork raised on an outdoor unit here and lamb which spent its whole life on a Welsh hillside and we have an entirely different set of figures
