We used to have a VW Caddy truck years ago. It did everything needed around the farm, and was easy on fuel too.

I would guess that 90% plus of the 1 ton trucks you see on the road never have more than a few kg in the back, my Hilux would never carry anything that couldn't have gone in the old Caddy truck, and in the first 5 yrs of its life the previous owner told me it had never had anything in the bed or towed either.
Other than heavy towing a 4wd light pickup would do all that I need, and I suspect a lot of other folk too. There are people that can justify a bigger heavy truck for their needs and thats fine, but there seems to be an awful lot of big 4wd crew cabs that never do any "work"
We are supposed to be trying to save the planet, but all running heavy trucks doing less mpg. A small truck with todays engines would use half the fuel.

But I must be in the minority or somebody would make one!!

It doesn't really matter if you could get the VAT back anyway because the Santa Cruz will be left hand drive only as it's to be built in Hyundai's Alabama plant in the US

These things are a lot more common on farms around here than a 4x4 with livestock trailer. They are relatively inexpensive and can move a lot of animals in one go just so long as you aren't going too far.

@Farmer Roy Is that parade the equivalent to the spotty faced yoofs in their lowered Vauxhall Corsa's who cruise round the town streets here making an ares of themselves? Just asking as there was not that many "working" utes in that parade.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz isn't as small as it looks. It has a 118 inch wheelbase, which is significantly greater than the old model LR110. To put it into perspective, most current one ton pickups have a 127 to 130" wheelbase like the old and rare LR130 model. So not as small as it looks in the videos and pictures.

There has historically been plenty of people that lament the passing of the Subaru and VW Caddy pickups, which used to sell in fairly large volumes. Perhaps people have moved on to one ton pickups, but there are plenty saying that these are too big for them. Maybe to vans? Plenty of those about nowadays but hardly any have four wheel drive as an option as far as I know.

I doubt that it will be sold in the UK anyway, but you never know. It would make a good farm runabout I think.
Citroen Berlingo 4×4 and Renault Kangoo 4×4. Slightly more ground clearance than an ordinary one. Some around here but more in the mountains and on the Plateau. Go anywhere with winter tyres, cheaper than a big pickup both to buy and run. French farming runs on vans.

What van's are popular with French farmers?

I'm looking for another.
 
It has a 3 litre diesel with a 10 speed box, goes well. Initially went for the F350 with a 6.7L, it was just too big for NZ roads and parking slots.
Was thinking a lot of our car parks here in NZ especially supermarkets are actually "incorrect" as there parallel and not angled, so even for a set area angled car parks are easier to get in and out off and less likely to damage other people's vehicles.

thats it though isn't it......most ppl are influenced by 'style' over practical.....i bet that truck is just as practical as many of the others but bereft of looks (and price tag) it's ridiculed :rolleyes:

i'm not saying it's any good cos don't know and it won't become iconic.....but look at other cars that started out 'utilitarian' and the the ppl that drove them made them cool....so much so they got hijacked into luxery end for ppl who want to be thought cool.....vw beetle and mini;)

same with pick ups.....used to be utilitarian but now more about perceived status

It won't sell unless they offer a two door, shorter cab, longer bed version. In that case they can leave the carrying capacity at half a ton or 600kgs while it would still qualify as a commercial vehicle. I reckon it would sell quite well. Lots of farms need a runabout pickup or van that needn't carry and tow what the current one ton offerings do. Cheaper to buy. Cheaper to run. Nicer to drive. What's not to like?
Agree, just bought a little Fiesta van to run along side the Navara, more than twice the mpg and just a handy run about, if it were a Fiesta pick up I would have been happier.
