Is there a market for this little beauty of a Hyundai Santa Cruz light pickup in the UK? From comments over the years it may be that there are many that are ready to put their money where their mouths are for it. :scratchhead: I'm not so sure.

Subaru Brumby was HUGELY popular here, back in the day.
Is there a market for something similar 30 years later ?
There has historically been plenty of people that lament the passing of the Subaru and VW Caddy pickups, which used to sell in fairly large volumes. Perhaps people have moved on to one ton pickups, but there are plenty saying that these are too big for them. Maybe to vans? Plenty of those about nowadays but hardly any have four wheel drive as an option as far as I know.

I doubt that it will be sold in the UK anyway, but you never know. It would make a good farm runabout I think.

Does it carry a tonne in the back, so as to be able to trigger a VAT reclaim?

If ‘yes’ then it will sell.
If ‘no’ it will sink without trace in the UK.
But it’s probably a ‘rest of the world’ non EU/ non UK model anyway, so it’s a moot point.

Ah! That's a good one. It almost certainly only carries half a ton and being a four door, in the UK it won't qualify as a dual purpose commercial vehicle, so no VAT reclaim and business tax relief.

Well spotted!

Quite like Hyundai, their vehicles get better all the time and they seem to be pushing hard with new vehicles all the time, while many manufacturers seem to be struggling.
Will it sell in the UK to farmers? probably not, everyone seems to want a 3.5 ton towing vehicle and I don't think it will fit the required image.
It won't sell unless they offer a two door, shorter cab, longer bed version. In that case they can leave the carrying capacity at half a ton or 600kgs while it would still qualify as a commercial vehicle. I reckon it would sell quite well. Lots of farms need a runabout pickup or van that needn't carry and tow what the current one ton offerings do. Cheaper to buy. Cheaper to run. Nicer to drive. What's not to like?

Yes it needs some kind of tax advantage benefit to sell to farmers, regardless of how good the vehicle might be, which is a bit sad. As you say it could be really handy, perhaps it will sell well. Brand image in the UK might not be that good?

hahaha

as much as I love the old Subarus, their biggest problem as a “work ute”, along with the current crop of dual cab utes, is they were too small. By the time you put a decent toolbox & an air compressor in the back, there’s no room for your lunchbox 🤣.
😆Factory /wellside decks are near useless and impractical, hence a proper truck flat deck 1.8m wide and 2.2m long minimum!!!
Having a flat deck the above size is perfect for conventional bales too.👍👍
As for lunch, ffs get your sushi at the local bakery on the way through with your Iron Jack's.😁

that’s why EVERY work ute, farm ute, builders / tradies / plumbers ute etc etc here has a flat drop side tray. Well backs / tubs are only for townies or used as personal cars
