As part of the farming community, you are invited by BASF to an innovative event to launch the new cereal fungicide, Revystar® XE. Eight events will be held throughout the UK, bringing farmers together to discuss their challenges and plans for spring 2020. Farmers involved in BASF’s Real Results Circle will share their field trial results from using Revystar® XE on their farms last spring. You’ll hear first-hand how they got on and what they thought. Soil health expert, Professor Jenni Dungait will also be giving her advice on how to manage soils following the wet conditions, and ADAS will share their independent research into Revystar® XE‘sperformance.

Speakers

Pat Thornton

Pat has combined a career in agronomy with his own farming activities on the family farm. He has worked with ADAS, NIAB TAG and AHDB where he had responsibility for running monitor farms. He also works as a consultant. Pat describes his land as “pretty heavy” as witnessed by the fact that there are two old brick quarries within the farm boundaries. The land is flat and lies only four metres above sea level. Rotational ploughing every four to five years is proving beneficial, and a low disturbance system is favoured using a Vaderstad Rapid fitted with the System Disc toolbar. Pat firmly believes “Knowing is not enough- you have to do something with the knowledge!”. An advocate of very regular crop walking, using the right products at the right time.

Rodger Hobson

After growing up on the family farm at Crockey Hill in Yorkshire, Rodger read Engineering Science at Oxford University. Throughout his early career he was based in London as a Strategic Management Consultant with corporate clients in sectors as diverse as hotels and leisure, property and airlines, before returning home to the farm business. Rodger now has over 20 years experience of farming specifically in growing carrots and is the Chairman of the British Carrot Growers Association. Now the UK’s largest grower of carrots for the processing market producing over 30,000t each year over 364 hectares, the farm also grows 1,620 hectares of cereals. This includes winter and spring wheat, spring barley, sugar beet, vining beans and OSR. Rodger visited New Zealand as part of the BASF Innovation Tour.
