The Yorkshire Agricultural Society runs a number of organisations which promote and support British farmers and the countryside year round, and the Great Yorkshire Show is just one of the many events it runs to help do that. All profits made by the Society’s activities are put back into supporting the rural community.
A major part of our work is getting the message across to young people and educationalists of the pivotal role farmers play in putting the food on our tables and managing the landscape. For example, our education department runs a range of rurally based courses at the showground for primary school teachers so that they are better informed for their classroom teaching. Popular events such as Countryside Days and Careers in Focus target specific age ranges - primary and secondary school children respectively. The Society’s educational activities is led by the Charities Activities Committee.
