My friend and I decided last Thursday to hire a 7.5 tonne truck and fill it full of humanitarian aid to take to Poland and more specifically to Stalowa Wola where hundreds of orphaned children are being received and looked after prior to being paired with families.
We had no prior experience of this, but both of us being Royal Navy veterans, weren’t afraid to jump in and get on with it. So after hiring the truck, we then started looking into things and it started to get a bit scary - especially regarding the customs situation. But we found a solution and then posted on social media and had an article in the local paper to ask for donations - which resulted in over 3.5 tonnes of donations in 48 hours. More than we could actually get in the truck.
