There isn't a shortage of Truck drivers in the US, there's a shortage of good driving jobs. The large hauliers have a massive retention problem, although many are happy with that because they have their own training schools that are very profitable in their own right and while you have a trainee aboard you can pay them very low rates per mile.10 million job openings available in the U.S. right now, the shortage of truck drivers is causing problems in all sectors.............fancy being a trucker, come on over.!
CR England for example have a driver turnover rate of 150%, but they train so many new drivers that they often have 2 trainees and one trainer per truck.
In a recent article they said that to maintain a workforce of 6400 drivers, they need to - and do - train over 9000 people per year.
Why are all these people leaving? Many go on to other companies but a lot drop out altogether. Doesn't sound like a shortage to me.
