That’s because they aren’t true Waikato platforms. Mine was the first proper Waikato platform in the UK had zero trouble with it. Be interested to know what platforms they actually are, any ideas?

A lot of rotarys in New Zealand the platform was built by the local engineering firm and then the milking machine equipment was bolted to it. It’s only in the last 10 years have they been building there own platforms in house.

Can you take a picture under the deck of yours please.

My Waikato 50 point costs me 3.5k per year in maintenance including 4 liner changes. I made my own service sheet which the guys do monthly and my parlour tech says it’s the reason he never has to come out to mine for any breakdowns. I’ve just had to replace my colinson auger after 10 years use but estimated it had done 4 million feed drops in that time and it only cost me £1800 so a good return on investment.
Who's your local Waikato dealer cause mr Dean has a good name. Is your rotary much better than a large swing over

How come he’s putting robots in? Company’s house doesn’t show him having much cash. Is he trying to go bust or something?
Labour issue i have heard he is saying. Very high turnover of staff . Also changes mind like the wind. Spent a fortune there in the last few years

Yes Mr Dean is your man. Although last time I saw him was a while ago and he said mine is the only rotary he doesn’t have to come out too and the simple reason for that is that I’ve made a monthly maintenance sheet which the staff do and sign off. It’s like any equipment, robot, herringbone or rotary if you don’t maintain them it will let you down.

I’d have a rotary over a swing over any day, cow flow is so much better and in late lactation we can speed the platform up and be milking 450 cows/hour difficult to get better output in a herringbone

Have a few 000 tonnes out of the excavation to give a good seeing to - breaking it in to cobs, drainage & fines for the build

Too early to say what they will be but we have tried to mitigate where we can and will try to keep on top of maintenance using the stitch in time theory. Provided that the deck is well built & concreted, then i would expect it to last 20 years or more.
Robots would probably be replaced before a rotary was kaput?

Going on 15 years here, and have replaced a fair few important parts on the two older machines as we've gone along. There's nothing I can see that can't be fixed or replaced. Bushings have been done a couple of times. New vac pumps roughly every ten years etc. It's a constant work in progress really, little bits at a time. If the will is there on all sides, theres really no reason they couldn't go on indefinitely.
