Please tell him not to go alone, take a solicitor.

This times a thousand. Never never never have 'an informal chat' alone with the police at the station. It isn't an informal chat, it'll be a recorded interview, and anything you say can and will be used against you. They only ask for this when they have nothing to go on, and hope you'll say something stupid they can use against you. And you won't necessarily know what could be something incriminating. Your solicitor will and will prevent you putting your foot in it.

Also, be careful what you say when you do go. They often ‘invite’ you to the police station when they have little or no grounds to arrest a person, hoping the suspect will trip them selves up and provide it. In this instance though I doubt you could say anything that would land you in trouble. I’d probably reply to each question with “no comment officer” just to be equally stupid.

That's total nonsense. The police do not turn up asking people to come down for interviews about made up offences..... Assuming that this isn't total bulls**t I would guess he is being looked at for a public order offence based on what he said to the people.

A mate had a informal chat with a couple of police officers in his house once....lots of officers at the local station lost their jobs over the following years:rolleyes:
