Young Britons really want socialism (without paying for it)

I had this request from a lefty lecturer to allow students to drive my best tractor to give them a positive experience of farming. Well, err, what about starting with the real work like pulling blackgrass or bolters out of beet? That's the reality and more akin to the kind of organic pesticide free tripe they lecture us about. But no, everybody wants to sit on their arse on the big tractor. Well it ain't happening while I'm still doing the manual work or lathered in oil and greasing fixing it.

Total hypocrisy
From the do as I say not as I do brigade.
Pathetic.
( I do recognise not all posters on this thread suckle from the subsidy teat)
Sooner the subsidy is gone the better. It won't go from the towns and cities though will it. 40 years worth of UK total farming subsidy spent on HS2 to build a railway line so folks can do their christmas shopping in London. Total hypocrisy.

Have often thought of setting up a communist run farm. I wonder how many would still be here after a week roguing getting bitten by clegs and soaked by downpours. Then finding that they have earned 50p an hour when the profits are divvied up at the end of the year. I think some would stick it actually, the same folk who thrive as self employed, but a lot would be gone after a couple of days. Doesn't matter which system it is, there is still work to be done. Socialists talk the talk but rarely walk the walk, just wanting to be the boss.
My farm was run along those lines during the war and for several years after.
The dream of a socialist utopia, everyone sharing the work and the proceeds.
Lasted quite a number of years whilst it descended in resentment and acrimony for obvious reasons.

Respect to them for actually walking the walk but all it proved in the end was that it doesn't work.

The fundamental problem with socialism is need a “boss” to make the executive decisions otherwise it descends into a committee run fudge like we see wit our Parish Council and absolutely nothing gets done. The “boss” then has more “power” than the others. Socialists don’t like this hard reality. Everybody had to be able to have their say but unfortunately that never works because sone people, like or not, are born balmy, and always will be.

Yep, here apparently meetings about who doing what dragged on for half the day quite often.
Some were more willing to work, began to resent those less willing and so on.

Nothing wrong with the young wanting to try something different when they look at the absolute mess their elders have made.
Nothing to stop them collectively buying a farm/factory or whatever and running it along socialist lines. Show us how it’s done.
But wait, they want to use somebody else’s money to do it, not their own.

On a communist run farm the"workers" aren't allowed to leave .
