Young Britons really want socialism (without paying for it)

Maggie Destroy The Working Classes Thatcher, initiated the greatest transfer of wealth to the “elite Tory Etonian classes“, since the fall of the Empire. She replaced transfer of wealth (theft to you and me) from the colonies, with transfer of wealth from Joe The British Plumber/Miner/Factory Worker, to these same leeches in pinstripe suits.

Compared to that, a good old fashioned proper left, red Socialist government could hardly do any appreciable harm to the fabric of society.

Just sayin….
Not reflected in the facts as reflected in my contact with the local artisans who frequent my local and the rugby club. The boys on the tools are doing very well thank you very much and have no time for the Labour party or Lib Dem’s who they regard as supporting the idle and feckless

Bollox it was the left wing unions that destroyed manufacturing in the uk in the 70s

The slavish loyalty of so many TFF’rs to the “Conservatives”, is a phenomena well worth deeper analysis. Indeed it’s a sort of institutionalism, where the poor lambs, seem to have fallen into an inherited indoctrination which has all but numbed their critical faculties beyond the point of any meaningful usefulness. I do genuinely worry for a lot of folks on here….

We need a record emote or maybe a sad bstrd emote.

FFS change the record. IF there were decent people in other parties people would be more than willing to vote for them.

How the hell can you vote for a Liberal that totally denies democracy or a Labour that want Marxism ? Get a brain FFS.

Maggie HAD to destroy the miners because Scargill wanted a communist revolution. That doesn't equate with "Destroying the working class".

Maggie helped the working class more than any other PM ever by allowing people to buy their council house, pensions and for some investments in the stock market.

All those three made people very rich - who in past generations had very little.

The EU has shutdown, with the help of Westminster, an multitude of UK regulators, authorities, research centres and businesses - all to the detriment of future generations in the UK.

The worst thing to hit the working class in recent memory was the immigration of 5 million Polish workers who reduced manual wages significantly - especially in London - all thanks to the EU.

Everything Maggie did would have happened anyway. If she hadn't flogged off the utilities etc, then Labour would have anyway.

It was the management structure of the UK that destroyed manufacturing, with the executives having more concern over who had the keys to the executive bathroom that they were for what was happening on the shop floor, this lack of concern also led to the rise of the Unions.

5 million Poles in UK. Weird, since any statistics online show slightly above 1mln at the highest.
Please show me a source of your circa 500% higher number.
Blaming foreigners, typical...

Edit: According to EU settlement status statistical data in UK:
Between August 2018 and March 2021 there's 4 910 690 people with settled or pre-settled status
In that number, there are 975 180 Poles.
Does it mean there are over 4 millions Poles missing? Did 4 millions left? How many of them are hiding?
So many questions raised, because of one man with made up number...

6 million have now received settled status, that's nearly ten percent of the uk population add in all the non eu citizens here it's no wonder we are so crowded.

No it was useless management and militant unions combined that buggered it up.
Not enough reinvestment from companies plus demarcation by the unions led to a uncompetitive industry, Maggie got nissan etc here and slowly the rest caught on, we just need the public sector to get on the same page

The useless management and the practices they had in place, along with a lack of investment on the shop floor, led to a rise in unions and the demarcation rules they put in place.
When Nissan et.al. invested in the UK, the workers on the shop floor were the same as they had always been, the difference was the management in place, resulting in cars made in the UK under the Japanese brand are just as reliable as their Japanese made counterparts.
President Truman had a sign on his desk with the words "The buck stops here" he was quite right, accountability for the demise or success of a company stops and starts at the top, not with the workers on the shop floor.

Funny because as I remember it, it was the never ending strikes costing firms their businesses that caused manufacturing to be sent abroad, unions at that time seemed to think that bringing a company to it‘s knees would bring pay rises for it’s workers.
Then as now if you put prat’s in a position of power there is only one outcome!

Think, back then, it wasn't clear who ran the businesses ...the management or the unions.

It also wasn't clear who ran the country ..heath went to the polls saying "who governs Britain" (meaning the government or unions) and lost!

I would say it was part of the problem. But a very significant part was the the post war governments use of Marshall aid, every other country in Europe spent it mostly on rebuilding their war shattered industries. The UK spent most of its money trying to cling on to its position as a world leader through high-tech weapons development. So you had the UK on the one hand developing atomic bombs and V bombers, at the other still building new classes of steam locomotive and reopening pre-war factories producing in the same old things in the same old way again because of no investment.
