by someone over the age of 21 i think you will find.Anyone taking car test after Dec 96 is restricted to towing 750kg un-braked or a combination of 3500kg MAM, providing the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the GVW of the towing vehicle.Pick-up and ifor type trailers will require B+E licence.
Tractor and trailer combos up to 24450kg in weight can be driven on a car licence.
NFU have got similar info on their website if you put in a search for "Driver Licencing" So in short it appears a 17 year old with a Cat B licence can run a tractor and trailer up to 24390kg but will need a B+E for a pick-up and Ifor type trailer, until DVLA/DSA decide to change it again !
Agreed but it madness really , my 16 year old who has passed his tractor test, could drive a pick up and trailer as well as anyone when he is 17 , its the 40-50 year old idiots with caravans who should take a test.
As from September , anyone taking B+E will have to use a loaded trailer for test.
Trailers used on B+E test must be loaded with either 600kg sand bags or a 1000 L IBC filled with water. The actual weight of the loaded trailer must not be less than 800 kg. quote]
you have not got enough sand
There has never been a restriction for 16- 21 year olds, With regard to max weight of tractor trailer combinations once they have passed the test. I do believe there is good argument for it , but that is the lawby someone over the age of 21 i think you will find.
I am sure there is weight limits for people under 21, if its the same as when i was 21!!
it used to increase with the age.
C Vehicles over 3,500 kilograms, with a trailer up to 750 kilograms 21*For an agricultural tractor (category F) the weight limit if you are 17 or older and hold a full category B driving licence is 24,390 kg. The restrictions for under 21s are only for category C, which means you have to be 21 or over to get a full HGV licence.
you might as well speak french to them or double dutchThink that rule has disappeared, although it could be still valid. Will ask VOSA next week, they should know but probably wont !
