So... I’m in a hotel in South Cave. A few miles from Jono Dixon.... this is the monthly YFC haunt... the girls behind the bar say they dread YFC night. Yes it’s great for money but they all spend £100 and have no manners .... I’m embarrassed

I will have to ask my sister for a Local’s view as she lives in South Cave. She had nothing to do with farming or YFC though

In my experience and what I hear they seem well behaved and don’t drink these days either.i know there are exceptions.in my days 40 years ago there would be continual messing about and getting drunk and all manor of other unmentionable things.can remember going to Isle of Man for Yfc convention and a local club member climbing over the side of ferry and wave to people inside the ship from the outside,on a rope.im sure he was arrested at Douglas and had beb and breakfast with local plod.im sure a lot of members on her will know who im talking about.probably around 1980.

At the weekend and earlier this week YFC was helping flooded homes and businesses pump water out and start getting cleaned up.

Precisely
Same in Swaledale last July - the YFC were outstanding
Young people in the countryside doing their bit for the greater good
Proud to have been in YFC in my youth and we raised £1000’s for charity - particularly a local school & home for blind children
We delivered free logs to needy OAPs at Christmas - all chopped & bagged by members
Put in a free summer country sports & animal show for towns people to enjoy
We had a few parties - but never out of hand

Should’ve in a travel lodge , and drive a Austin Cambridge , than fancy hotels and swanky reps cars. . Kit would be cheaper then ?

1 I would not admit to know him^!!
2 Radio 1 DJ's used to say that YFC do's where the best to do, because they got 3 or4 K of people with no trouble and self policed in our day!
3 Our club always did stuff for charity and the community.
With the demise of Youth clubs they are probably now attracting the wrong crowd in more urban areas. To show my era, I was probably one of the older ones on that ferry!! I was being taken by my father to YFC whilst learning to drive in the early 70's

Nearest Travelodge on A63 is grim though

Seriously in this internet age is there a need for reps spending 2-3 nights away each week

Must cost a bomb !

Conference calls/Skype etc would be cheaper
Is it oh, stayed in one in Plymouth like that!

Hotels are hit and miss full stop!

Conference calls are ok but you can't always get the full picture on a conference call.
I used to do one with the US 50 on one call very hard.
Before and after a meeting is a good time to "network " or " gossip" too

You only need to see the Beer tents at any major agricultural show, to see that it’s obvious most farmers never leave their own road end.
