Never knowingly seen a yellowhammer, but was watching a group of goldfinches yesterday :)
Still got snow on the ground here today but much of it has gone. 2degrees. Grey! Snow shower earlier. Trying to brighten up at the moment (midday).
I probably wouldn't have known what they were only the uncle was out pottering about the yard while I was foddering. He was the one told me what they were.
It's 6 degrees here but it's absolutely miserable. Raining more then it's not. Sickening feckin weather.

Goldfinches are so pretty :)

Sun shone here for a while. No precipitation but snow not gone either, even from on top of the car that's been sitting in the sun all day. Seems to be waiting for for of itself (n)

I'd like to see what the weather you all are experiencing throughout the year. Tempeture and conditions. Just post what it was like and if there any changes.

Yesterday morning it was 53F and drizzle. About noon cleared off and windy at 15mph gusting to 30. Temp dropped throughout the day. This morning it was 12F with 10mph wind, felt like 0F. Snow flurries thoroughly the day.[/QUOT

Wetter than a haddock's bathing suit.

Probably the last year we will try to keep many sheep outdoors on turnips or beet tops. A complete mess and depressing to look at.

Might need to build another shed and get the sheep in from mid December till lambing in February. And have a few more cattle and less sheep maybe. Grants for sheds for overwintering stock would be good for the environment , Mr Gove.

Zero tilled wheat coping well with minimal surface water movement and good infiltration but we did spend a lot of time sorting out wet spots and drains in the summer.

Late drilled ploughed and cultivated land looks like it's struggling a bit with water starting to submerge the low bits. The rain has slumped it badly.

Next year's beet land is still stubbles which are taking the water but I dread to think what the heavy stuff will plough up like. Left it too late again. Paraplow when dry on top and fit the mulch kit to my beet drill?

One thing is for certain. We can't keep doing the same old thing and hoping for a dry winter. It just can't be relied upon.

Well, I was in Harrogate this weekend and checked the weather to find that the BBC had "Wheeled Out The Schaf" aka it was all going to turn to poop. Watch and see if there is a correlation.
