Just been to ripon, both the Swale and the Ure are starting to run hard, there might a few damp feet in York.
Yes the flood defences are much better now than years ago, but there's a lot of water comming down the three main rivers above York.Over thirty years ago I had a summer job in Keld, right by the Swale; the way the river could rise, even after a summer rain was frightening, saw it again later when I was based in Catterick. The volume of water in it now, with already waterlogged ground, must be enormous. Has York not got better flood defences now?

In Dec 15 both of the bridges over the Swale near me were closed for a few days while the big water went through, I think the Jorvik centre got flooded that year and was closed for a long time.
yep, barriers going up at Shrewsbury and BewdleyShrewsbury used to flood terribly until they installed flood defences . It’ll be testing them today
