Our lane is like a river as the drains can’t cope.

Just been to ripon, both the Swale and the Ure are starting to run hard, there might a few damp feet in York.

Getting close as usual

Over thirty years ago I had a summer job in Keld, right by the Swale; the way the river could rise, even after a summer rain was frightening, saw it again later when I was based in Catterick. The volume of water in it now, with already waterlogged ground, must be enormous. Has York not got better flood defences now?
Yes the flood defences are much better now than years ago, but there's a lot of water comming down the three main rivers above York.
In Dec 15 both of the bridges over the Swale near me were closed for a few days while the big water went through, I think the Jorvik centre got flooded that year and was closed for a long time.

15 was when they forgot to service the foss pumps and the kings medieval fish ponds reappeared in central York

Yorvik was closed for 15months I think. Everywhere was a proper mess though. We had becks running across fields

31mm in the 24hrs until 7.30am and another 12mm since, it's been fine since 3pm and it would surprise me if it rained again in the next few days. It will take longer than that to be able to go on the fields again though
