Sorry James only just got internet back, think some fibreoptic cables got washed away.
Basically cut off from 'up north' as both Rangitata bridges were closed because the approaches washed away. SH 72 is open now. SH1 still closed.
Lots of ground under water.
LJ's youngstock manager sent me a pic of the helicopter that has replaced his ute for stock checks:cool:
They've only just finished re wrapping loads of bales that got hailed on the other week. Now they've probably washed away.

Aww sounds rough as. Hope you are keeping well.

Lashing it down. Got another load of beet away. Trying to clear a blocked lateral drain at the junction with main but might have to leave it undisturbed as there is so much water oozing into and filling the hole. Chicken and egg. Can't get the water away until I unblock the junction. Can't unblock the junction till the water level has dropped. But it just keeps on topping it up with rain. Get this junction sorted and beet harvesting might go again eventually.

Might try the slurry tanker to keep sucking the water away while we install yet another rodding sump (1/2 a 200 l barerel) to stop things collapsing in. Best done in summer really but beet won't wait that long.

Don’t know if I can be bothered to go beating tomorrow, looking at the forecast !
Heavy rain all day. At least it’s not our week to shoot and stand on a peg in the heavy rain.

Good light shower then if it’s only 15mm this year
