Impossible to do any spraying or spreading for days on end due to constant strong winds. Sometimes they fall light at night but not the best job in the dark and often below freezing. Seedbeds completely dried out. Turning into another real crock of a year weather wise for us.
I cannot remember so many continuous days where the temperature has not got above 6'C in April. Last night we were -3'C.
The relentless winds and freezing temperatures has completely dessicated the grass. A few more days like this and we will have to start feeding again. Forecast is still bad and no rain either.
Normally I can set out tramlines by doing the first pass with the guidance system then following the tractor wheel marks on subsequent passes. This year the heavy land where we drilled wheat in November has set so hard that even with 1200 kg in the spreader I leave no discernible wheel marks. Unbelievable.
Plus 16 here today. We are a three weeks a head of our long term temperatures in and as dry as a camels fart. After a vert dry 2020 winter produced next to no snow. Rivers are lower than I’ve seen here in twenty years. Will be planting by Friday which will be record early for this area. Will need rain for germination and timely rains to make a decent crop.
