17 here at the moment with a high of 18 this afternoon, early rain this morning then sunshine now increasingly clouding over with more rain looking imminent.

Outbreaks of rain will clear to showers this morning, but these showers will turn increasingly heavy and thundery going into this afternoon. Lightning strikes are likely, with hourly rainfall totals exceeding 15mm in heavier bursts. It will also be a windy day, with gusts of 40-45mph possible through eastern London and along the coast of Essex and Suffolk late this morning and early afternoon. Some showers will linger through this evening and tonight, but with lighter winds.

Another day of sunny spells and heavy, thundery downpours is expected on Saturday. Hourly rainfall totals of 15mm and cumulative totals in excess of 20mm are expected, as well as lightning strikes. The showery theme will continue through the rest of the weekend and into the new week, some of which may be on the heavy side
