Fantastic - downloaded it - great for letting contractors know where you need the work doing

Only one question - can you edit and delete notes ?

Hi @Grouse currently notes can be 'archived' so they don't show up all the time on the map - noted about editing - will have a chat with the techies... thanks!

Wow - the power of TFF! Amazing response. Thanks to all that have downloaded and started using. And huge thanks to those that have fed back here and directly with us - this app is for you and with your help we will make fieldmargin the perfect tool for farmers who need to get on with farming not paperwork...

Hi all

A quick update - the Android app is *nearly* finished. We're prodding our developers to go as fast as they can, so we should have some good news for you in the next week or two.

We've updated the iPhone app - the whole thing now runs a little more smoothly, has higher quality maps, and the offline map download feature has been improved. If you're using our iPhone app, you'll be invited to test our desktop version - having a bigger screen means it's easier to make sure feature boundaries and notes are exactly where you want them, and it's easier to keep on top of what others are up to. The link to download/update the iPhone app is here: http://apple.co/2cvVNE3

@RobFM and I will keep you up to date with what's new, but please give us a shout if there's anything we can do in the meantime!

This looks superb. I have to construct maps for applications to the Environment Agency and accuracy of field location is absolutely vital.
As I don't have an iPhone can I ask a few questions?
  • Does it give the NGR of the field?
  • If I wanted to identify an area for a stockpile, can that be done and does the app allow for an NGR for that as well?
I have recommended it to my clients, so hopefully you should have a few more downloads (y)

Hey @360farmsupport

NGR isn't currently in the app but I've popped it on our list on the office wall of features to look into. As for identifying areas for a stockpile, you can mark areas and add any relevant notes you need, and share these with colleagues etc.

Thanks for spreading the word - I'll let you know when the Android version is out so you can give us a try!

@jamj fieldmargin for iPad isn't available at the mo, but when it's out, it'll work just fine if you're using the desktop version on a PC. If you sign up to our newsletter here (http://eepurl.com/b_9v0n) I'll make sure to let you know as soon as it's available on iPad.

Can't help you with the stupid phone @Muck Spreader! But if you're connected to wifi when you set up your farm on the app, the maps are saved offline so you can use the app without signal.

I think this is a great concept so this afternoon I thought I'd download the app and give it a go but so far I've found it to be very laggy on my iPhone 5s. Would reducing the size of farm saved for offline use speed the app up? Surely a 5s isn't old and out dated already?

Whilst the map is downloading, it can make the app run a little slower than usual. Once the map has finished downloading, the app should be back to normal. Are you using the latest version of iOS?

Personally I don't get it. I downloaded it, spent 30 mins doing the boundary to then not get an area. Then had a go at a small area going to grass to work out seed requirement and again no area.

The word map in promotional material for me means 'areas', so this is a mapping app that doesn't calculate areas presently. Glad I didn't pay for it as it's misleading.

So then why do you need it exactly?

I never say never *but* Window phones are now less than 1% of the market - looks like they'll not make them for long - rumours are that new phones made by Windows/Nokia will be Android. I think 'unlikely' might be my most diplomatic answer here... sorry, that's not very good news is it?

We will have something for computer web browsers but that will require an internet connection.
I have also heard that windows are dropping their own mobile OS, which seems a shame as they bought Nokia, ruined it, then threw it away :(
Also very keen to have a play with new App when it comes out in Android.

Hey @warksfarmer - thanks for taking the time to have a go - and especially for taking the time to give us feedback - without feedback we won't become the thing we want to be, the most helpful software farmers can use.

I'm talking to the team this morning about this and other feedback we've had in the last few days. I'm sorry it's not lived up to expectations yet.

What we have at the moment is the ability to draw points, lines and areas, add notes to them and know that that note is safe and visible to colleagues on your farm.

Thanks to other feedback, reminders and photos are coming very soon. I hope distances and areas will therefore follow soon after that.

Again all feedback is brilliant for us and the only way we'll make something you need is to tell us.

So is this available for windows PC ?

Hey @Dman2 - we are currently testing the browser version, which will work in any (modern) browser on a conventional computer. It's not ready for public use yet (our early users have told us that clearly!) but perhaps another month or so?

You will definitely need internet connection for the browser version though (we have no choice in that) so we see it an complimentary to the apps.

I think I am missing something as I can't see what benefit the app gives a normal farm? Clearly if your running many thousands of acres and have many staff members then yes the ability to see something on a shared map makes sense, but the for likes of most of us then if i know there is a problem area then I know and its as easy to just tell your single employee.

Unless you can measure off it then I dot see it being of any use at all.
