Your Formerly Independent Agronomist....

You know, those who worked for small companies 15-20 years ago, but now after various takeovers work for your friendly multinational super supplier.

Am I the only independent supplier who used to have them on my side but now they seem to do all they can to grab every last scrap of work they can from me. It seldom works, but they still keep trying!

They have, rather disappointingly, fallen into the trap of sales targets and filling their pockets whilst emptying those of their customers.

The thing is, when they were independent, they weren't selling fertiliser and were more than happy to recommend me to new customers. But now they seem to me to be doing anything except looking out for their customers interests.

I know, I make money from my customers too. But I don't slag off any other suppliers to make a living.

I for one am getting a bit fooked off with them, to be blunt.

Am I alone?

Playing devil's advocate, do you think you need to adjust your marketing to cope with the modern world, however devious it might be?

If I have to resort to the tactics they do, I would sooner pack up. I sell products on their own merits. I don't sell them by putting other products down.

I just can't be doing with tossers who change their views a complete 180 when they catch a sniff of commission.

In my opinion stay as you are Pete.

UK ag is about to shrink if what appears to be happening actually does and to the extent it would seem likely, the professional/efficient business/people with integrity will prevail over the sharp tongued in your face type who have developed in an environment that has plenty.

Sod em Pete. They come and go all the time. Long standing honest folk tend to stay around and earn loyalty.

As a local farming character told be 20odd years ago, "Do what you do best, and do it better" Wise words.
