Your proudest moment?

It strikes me that us farmers are a quietly proud breed, so what’s the moment that you’ve felt most proud?

For me, it was the time my Dad answered the phone to me late at night and I told him we were naming our son after him. (Not his first name that he and I and his father share, but his middle name). My Dad died 5 months later.

So, yours?

A year or two after the old man passed I bumped into a rather negative neighbour, you know the sort that talks everything down and is sour about what others have yet he is widely respected by others and has standing in the community. He told me how the farm has never looked as smart that he can remember. Considering I was feeling the pressure and thought I was doing a crap job it was a well timed compliment and I felt proud.

The time I welded a 3000 bird chicken shed back together that had broken into two while being winched off a large heap of chicken muck. We had to dig down through 3 feet of chicken muck surrounded by rats to get at the broken runners to reinforce and weld them back together.

The moment they retensioned the 90 ton winch and the whole hut slid off the heap was my proudest moment. They could then clean the hut down and make a proper repair.

It was a favour for a mate so wasn't paid, but satisfaction was payment enough.

Doesn't compare to bringing a kiddy into the world, but it will do for me,

Middle child getting into Oxford despite objections from his school (should stay in Wales). As a single Mum it meant a lot. Then four years later seeing him get his Doctorate.
Winning Gold for my meat in the True Taste Award.
Having three grown happy independent children with good partners and lovely children - that is the ultimate for me.

When people tell us our kids are polite, well behaved and generally a pleasure to know.

I am the same, but then I would be horrified to think they would be anything else! Our youngest son ( 13yrs ) recently brought home his school report and I am not ashamed to admit that I actually can't talk about it without welling up, every single teacher bar one who could only fault him on his lack of effort ( French, which he hates with a passion ) was so enthusiastic about him, his manners etc. That makes him sound like a little suck up, he isn't though, he just has a really strong ethic and moral stance which I think is just natural to him and maybe we can't actually credit ourselves with if that makes sense? On the other hand he has an evil sense of humour which I am usually the butt of!

I am very proud of all three of them

Second time I’ve saved a life.
Saved Ian davies life in 1993 when he was critically injured under a load of straw shattered both legs.
I was working at tynllan Farm at the time and got the bales off him and phoned the ambulance.
To this day we both don’t know how I got the D1000 bales off him by hand.
Proud to be there to help.
