Go and grab 2 box fulls for tomorrow's feed. Then maybe 2 more for Wednesday, then it could be time for a wash off and grease up till feb....View attachment 735492

It's about the same for me, however i doubt i'll be going in february. My fields have never finished the year with so little grass in. Slurry going back on too keep lagoon down but growth has slowed right up now.
I'm just counting my blessings i've gone this long.

5 days left. Can’t believe how lucky we’ve been to keep going this long.

Going into winter with some very bare fields.

We had a late start due to ground conditions which meant early grass got away from me and it was early June before we started cutting nice young stuff, we had to stop for best part of a month mid summer but I would say this dry kind autumn has made up for it.

Years of experience have taught me you are in the ideal position. With an application rate of about 2000gal/acre(slurry) growth will still be sufficient(soil temp 8-10 giving 25/18kg)to give a heathy winter cover , don’t be surprised if your cutting late Feb . The grass quantities might be less but quality will be much higher( no winter residues) . All weather dependant of course but a rare case of “ having the cake and eating it” well played fella[emoji106]

Scholsey, i see from your picture that you are lifting with a Lely Tigo silage wagon?
How do you find it -reliable, etc - i bought one myself recently for silage and seems fairly robust wagon.

Really pleased, bought it from my contractor who is also on here, genuine machine that couldn’t have been looked after any better, have a local fitter who HAD the Lely dealership 2 miles from me which was a massive thing behind my choice, didn’t fancy a Italian/Irish Zero grazer that I need to use every day 8 months a year without fast reliable back up. Also so handy being able to double up with my contractor for silaging.

I was nervous buying it as there aren’t many about here but it seems to eat up the grass at silage time and pack in serious loads. I plan to use it a bit next year for zero grazing. I bought mine off an old neighbour who only used it for maybe 50 acres and it’s like new.
Hopefully plan to use it for many years and keep it well but was worried that maybe it wouldn’t be reliable if there aren’t many about.
Think they are really a mengele rotobull which were tough German machines I think?

Managed to zero graze this year until Nov 2nd. This was my first year and I’m converted. What I’m wondering is how do you guys plan on managing your fertiliser input early doors??
