Zetor/John Deere

All your neighbours will think more of you and won't laugh when you chug past on your Zetor. You will find your self esteem will rise and when you drive your lovely John Deere your sex drive will go back to how it was when you were 18. You will join the top dog farming set in your village and can hold your head high when the pubs open.

Apart from that the JD is miles and miles better than a Zetor as you will find out when you drive it.

Get it bought.

Not your models, but we have an ancient Zetor that has never let us down. On more than one occasion it has pulled home broken-down newer, fancier, tractors that have suddenly stopped. It now spends time on the grain drier, but if necessary will be put to work pulling trailer if everything else has stopped, even though there is rather a smell of burning clutch up the hill to the farm drive.

We have a Valtra, second season, and so far it has been excellent.

I've tended to buy tractors on price as the money has been needed for other things. I've no experience of using a "premium" tractor. As I've got older I've realized you need to make things easier or jobs won't get done. My late father-in-law used to tell me this years ago and I thought what the heck are you on about, but I realize what he meant now! Our land is quite spread out so I do a lot of road work and after a 2 or 3 days the other week putting on fertiliser and doing other jobs I thought are there tractors where you can hear the radio when you are working, don't have ringing in the ears after a full day, that doesen't have a jerky power shuttle and doesen't give me back ache.?

For the first time I'm not looking forward to hay and silage time this year which I usually do

I would be changing to a slightly older tractor with probably 5000 hours on instead of 3500, it will do about 500 hours per year. I asked my friend who has a John Deere and he just gave me a knowing smile so hence the post.

We also have a John Deere which was bought new and is about 20 years old and after a few teething troubles, has had a long and reliable working life. I have said that when it goes I am retiring as it is very simple to drive and you can put anyone on it and since I am only dragged out at silage and harvest and I can't remember how to operate the fancy new ones with all the levers and dials and automatic this that and everything, but it is comfortable and modern enough and still has a working radio.

I was In a similar position to you last year. I had a zetor proxima 120, and decided to swap it for a john deere and went for a 6110mc. Zetor did me well but for spending day in day out on a tractor it's like chalk and cheese with the john deere

Your neighbours will finally realise that you don’t suffer from severe flatulence! :D There was a time where Zetors had a compressor which was used to power things.

Handy thing to have though.. our old 6748,a cheap 4 wheel drive back in the mid 70's which did years of work here, was very rough in her last days, but even when the brakes were gone, the clutch was slipping and she'd get stuck in gear, and the hydraulics were intermittent... she always started straight away and the compressor worked so we used her as a self propelled pump basically. Paid £2200 for her and got £600 for her decades later and might still be someone's pride and joy out in Eastern Europe.. Not the worst machine to be here by a long distance..
