To elaborate, there was a good turn out with 5 speakers giving 20min presentations. A consultant, a grower, a lady from the Belgian industry, William Martin and the BS MD.

The whole meeting focused on what we as growers would like as options in the future for our contracts. A form was handed out with about 5 different ones.

Can you put the option up, or maybe start a new thread with a poll to gauge TFF's opinion?

Sorry I handed the form in but I think the options were -

1. Have longer contracts 4-5 years
2. A price linked to the world sugar price
3.have different delivery slots where you can opt in for early, middle or late deliveries with prices adjusted for each slot (early and late getting more £)
4.http://www.fwi.co.uk/arable/post-quote-sugar-beet-pricing-options-revealed-to-farmers.htm

I better point out that they said the options were just that at the moment. If anyone thinks of a better way then let them know!

Sorry NFU.
Soooooo busy clearing mud, levelling tracks, ploughing in mud, after the last lift. To get to the meeting.

It's the time of the year when you just love the crop.

Sad to see a good break crop lost to farming.

Quotas are going in an effort to open up the European market to free supply and demand trade. As with many things in Europe the headline givith and the small print takes away.

In theory the less effective producers (Italy, Greece, etc) should drop out and leave it to the others. However these governments will carry on subsidising these industries as they support jobs in the countryside, communities and everything else that goes with it.

In the long run it has to be a good thing but I'm the short term it's not going to be pretty

What are you advising your farmers to grow instead?
