Heat shrink is the best option, keeps corrosion out
you can buy crimps that have solder in them , you just crimp them together & heat them with a heat gun & it melts the solder & the outer heatshrink on them which keeps the water out & there is all so some glue in them that melts on to the out side of the cable, They do a very good job.Got some side marker lights with flying leads that I need to join to some 2 core.
Is it best to use insulated crimps and heatshrink, or solder and heatshrink?
Anybody ever used self amalgamating tape? after wrapping it cant be undone.

Ok, do not twist and heat shrink! Use deutsch plugs and pins, water proof and very good! Buy correct pins! Solder wires in then use correct plugs that are waterproof to a set standard
Crimping with bullet type connectors etc will get water egress .
Solder and heat shrink is better,
John, I'd join both ends in a 12 way deutsch, water proof etc
Hope your boss doesn't read on here john, ........ As he is your boss, he pays your invoice/wages, being young you have to learn by your mistakes.. But guess you are perfect so have never Learned
so how would you join the 7 core cable that the bosses son has just ripped off the new bailey trailer....
replace the entire lot all the way through the chassis to the junction box....
or repair it using heat shrink crimps, staggered so they are not all in a big lump, taped it up and cable tie it to a pipe so he has to remove the light socket to get the pipe out
answers on a postcard please........
Fit a female plug on the trailer and have a male-male lead, then if it happens again just replace the male-male lead.
Or solder and heat shrink.
