Blues are back towards £100 wouldn't need to much of a gamble if you have the other 2 elements to hand
having seen the price of dairyx beef stirks, we were sorely tempted, they are pretty well past the danger period, and with barley/fodder/straw prices where they are, looked a good punt, luckily and unluckly we have just had our first tb reactor, so lucky we didn't buy any, but unlucky to go down.
Mind you, I bought a fair few in pig gilts at taunton mkt, one day, the real proper ones, £60 each, 3 months later, sold gilts with litters for between.... £60 and £70 . so that hunch was wrong !!!!!!

neighbour just rung up, some land sold for mega money, chap wants £200+ acre for rent, with the beef price where it is, and the prospects not looking good, and the sheep job up in the air, we were wondering who could afford that sort of rent, it is good ground. Then, he started on calf price, and how they were still making the money, as he rears all his, he was out of touch, surprised when I said the top price calves were 3/4 reared, usually on a cow, and sold at '40' days, I reckon the normal calves are £75 ish a head back. we were offered land at that price to rent, thought about it, and decided we would be better easing back,
mind you, for a landlord £200 + sfp, good money, if you can get it.

Someone's in cloud cuckoo land

Another point to consider regarding whole crop oats, how ripe are the grains? As they are finer than wheat I don’t think the corn crackers in the chopper will touch them if too hard, at least that’s what local contractor told me.
