Going to do the roadside hedges as normal, but will only go over the sides on infield hedges, to leave the top to grow this year.
Hopefully get some extra winter shelter and shade for the livestock if we're due more Summers similar to this year.
By then I'll hopefully have a few decent saplings...
Ive done exactly the same as an experiment.
Bought a 30 month steer privately earlier this year and he's just gone into meat boxes.
Sold 12 x £100 boxes, so all my costs are covered, and have 50kg left over for the family.
Will definitely do it again.
Did exactly the same myself last week.
Had 8 acres that had been kept back since June that had just stopped growing and was very patchy.
Was thinking I'd get 15 haylage bales, but ended up with 28.
Also more than happy with the aftermath that's coming in place of the dried up crap that was there.
Bought my first Dexter steer earlier this year, some for our freezer and some as meat boxes.
He's now hanging up at the slaughter house awaiting collection.
Killed out at 254kg at 39 months.
Will definitely be getting some more.
Just finished the 2nd cut of Haylage.
The Renault on Haybob duties. came to the farm new in 1980.
Next door neighbours Case 956 baling and another neighbour wrapping with his Inter.
