Repairing rotten gatepost

We have a 7" gatepost embedded in concrete that has about 18" of rot at the top where the top hinge passes through, bottom seems sound. I am looking for a length of 170mm pipe to fit over the top of it but without success. Gate is used twice daily so don't want to start digging it out. Any ideas?

Can you not pull it out with the fore loader or rear lift arms? Or get someone with a digger to pull it out? If there is any justice in life there will be a special place in hell for people who concrete in timber gate posts! I would do everything I could to remove the post as it is always the bottom hinge that goes on my field gates. I have three to replace as soon as it dries up. (But there is no concrete involved). Replace with a steel or timber post wedged in with rammed gravel.

Agree with the place in hell, the last one I pulled out was good on the top (where someone caught it with the mower:() but rotten at the bottom, still pulled out with a load of broken concrete.:(. I was just hoping for a temporary bodge until I get round to replacing it.

I will have a word with a local blacksmith when I have time to knock up a clamp of sorts. He made me a "harpoon" to remove the stump of a gatepost that was below ground level, worked a treat apart from the two foot square of concrete that came up with it.
