Which model Impact driver is the OP looking at? £165+vat is quite a bit cheaper than I paid for a bare HD18W in its case, let alone £134. More frustrating though is the fuel models caming out a few months after I bought it, rather than anyone finding cheaper.

+1 for FFX, they were the cheapest, UK based, I found for bare impact and drill with 2 batteries. The drill only came with one in the box, a short phonecall to FFX and a second one was sent. Both doing well and transformed my view of cordless tools.

The 3 Ah Makita Li ion batteries that come with the grinders and drills are pants, they are also designed to out last the 12mth warranty by about 2 weeks, and are about the most expensive to replace.
Shall never buy Makita again.:poop:

same happened to me bought the best Milwaukee was offering then they go and bring out a new model a few months after which wipes the floor with the older but still current model:mad:

I would have bought a Milwaukee 125mm 240volt angle grinder too but couldn't find one, and for some reason I opt for the makia grinder over the Dewalt model I had which was 16 years old and knackered but still a current model to buy. Why oh why didn't I just buy another dewalt which had been great I don't know:banghead:

I feel very sorry for any retail outlet now, basically you are a showroom for the Internet unless you are selling to a 75 yr old pensioner who doesn't trust the www. I buy nearly everything for the workshop online now and that will only increase.

Internet suppliers still have warehousing and staff, most of them are probably someone else's local supplier. I have no sympathy for expensive outlets unless they have exceptional repair facilities.

nothing stopping the retail outlets getting on the internet though is there.
Folkstone fixings have shops but they're not near me. I not got time to go shopping for tools during the day anyways.

Having bought one of their 18v combi drills last year, I've been looking into getting a Milwaukee impact wrench.

I was in our usual tool dealer this morning, who is also a Milwaukee agent, asking for a price. I was told £165 + vat for the bare unit since I already have the batteries.

Thinking this expensive, I went home and took to the Internet. I could have one delivered to my door by tomorrow from any number of suppliers for £134 including vat.

I phoned the aforementioned tool shop. Firstly, I wanted to check that their quote was correct. Having been told that it was correct. I explained that I could get a considerably better deal elsewhere and the reply was 'you can't expect us to compete with that, we have staffing costs'. I replied that I understand that they have staffing and warehouse costs but that their price was still 50% more than the going rate and was there any room at all for negotiation. They said they would get back to me.

Has anyone had similar issues?
I would like to support local jobs and local businesses but at the end of the day we are a business too. If I can get an identical product for £65 less then why shouldn't I take advantage of that. I know plenty of people who wouldn't even have given them a chance to improve their price.
Last year I needed a stilh lopping saw and various attachments. I got the best quote off the internet and then went to my local dealer. I told them what I wanted and what the internet price was and asked how close they could get. I did the deal with them for 5% over the internet price because although the price is important it is also important that I have a dealer on my doorstep for parts and repairs.

Screwfix sell Hitachi 18v combis with two 1.5ah li-ons for £99. Used and abused mine terribly for over a year, battery charges fast so use one charge one and not run out of power yet. Probably not in the Milwaukee league but still very impressed, I don't like to spend too much as I don't think they make one yet that will take a plough being dropped on it or falling off a combine.

Well well well, my son wants a cordless drill for his 40th birthday and this helpful post comes along.

I've bought a Milwaukee drill and bit set from Folkestone Fixings with a 5% discount! I hope he likes it, cos if he doesn't I'll have it.

Always had Makita, but the Milwaukee stuff is far better to use, batteriy charge lasts longer as well. The brushless drill was the last thing I bought, see the 5amp batteries are on the web for £99.

Further to my post about ordering a Milwaukee drill from Folkestone Fixings. I got an email saying my delivery was today, Monday. Then I got an email telling me to forget the email. Then I got an email telling me that the drill would be delivered on Tuesday. Then I got an email telling me that the drill wouldn't be delivered on Tuesday. I've just had an email telling me to click and find where my drill was. I clicked and found that they hadn't got the drill from wherever they get them from.

I don't know who recommended this bunch of idiots but please keep your recommendations to yourself in future. I will be ringing up tomorrow and cancelling my order.

Folkestone Fixings are the most incompetent firm I have ever had the misfortune to try and deal with.
