Just bought a Kuhn gmd select might be a daft question but how are you supost to light up at headlands used a older smaller one and just raised arm for that but this newer bigger one seams a bit low when fully raised in the arms should you use the raise ram somehow? Like on lelys?
Also anyone and spare manuals for one? Wanting to know what oil in the bed and how much.

Yeah you have to use both the linkage and ram it's a pain. Used to leave it on the ground all the time but maybe not an option.
Can't help on the oil, been a few years since I had one.

We've got 2 of them, usually we leave them down on the link arms and lift them on the ram, only thing is they tend to drag the cut grass a bit. So when we cut our rye grass for seed we have to lift on hydraulics and the ram so as not to knock the seed out. Bit of a pain.

I use a combination of lifting the linkage and pulling it up a bit on the spool on a gmd500

On ours to check the bed oil you lift it up in to transport position and on the under side of the bed about 1/3 of the way up is a Allen head stud which you take out to check oil level

I hope this is relevant to your machine

Why what's up with them Iv yet to use mine but used a smaller 5ft 6 one for years where I worked and did a very good job
The frame is lightweight, the bed is lightweight and it's not great for mowing heavy crops because of the belts. It's a farmers machine and needs to be minded. A couple of them around here had issues with the gearbox which may or may not have something to do with having to be lifted on headlands and the breakback creeping/wearing.

Nothing, I had one a up to 4 years ago sound robust machine. Just make sure you always have it raised and up to speed before lowering it or it will burn the belts out in seconds.

Thanks for the replys will be mowing only about 60 acres a year so not mega use I sometimes do bits for others here and there to nut not much. Can't be worse than my old lely 240 that destroyed its gearbox and bed drive shaft and pto shaft all in one go

Also is the beam from the tractor to the cutter bar that the belts run behind supost to have a curve to it this has but I can't think how you could bend such a thing without a lot of other damage

Next daft question what's the chain to o e of the 3 pint links for the old one I used this was for suckering the cutter bar up on the road but this has a able you put across for that. Just tryed a few runs with it with the arms in there highest setting and one set longer than other it lifts fine

If you leave it parked up on an older tractor which has lift arms which tend to drop down over night then you hook the chain up to 1 of the top link holes on the tractor which stops the mower sitting down on its end and damaging something... well that's what I've been lead to believe anyway, I always lay mine down in work position when not in use tbh

In the manual, with the mower, it says to use the chain as @DieselRob says. Also to set the working height with the chain, so that when you are mowing, the chain is taking the weight. Definitely DO NOT take the mower off the tractor with the bed in the upright position!
