Slooow loading - is auto resizing of images possible

I sometimes find the site slow, admittedly I am at the far end of what behaves like a bit of string with some of badly spliced joins in it, but there are a high proportion of very large pics to load.
If you could automagially reduce them to a civilised <100kb size it could save a large amount on data transfer costs at your end and give me faster loading.

Have I managed to sell it well enough @admin ?

Hi @RushesToo

There is some basic compression of all images that are uploaded to the forum already. We also host all images on amazon simple storage engine, backed by their content delivery networks. This means you should always get the images really quickly as the image will come from servers which are close to where you live.

Do you have some example threads/images which are still loading slowly for you?

I get the impression that the op has a very slow bb connection rather than TFF having slow servers. Is there not a browser setting that stops the automatic download of images and you can click on them if you want them to download?

I think it is my soggy spliced string that is an apology for BB, not Amazons infrastructure. I though I would try and persuade you to convert all the pictures to a smaller size by tempting you with the carrot of lower transit costs rather than just making one person happy.
Thought I would just see if there was an appetite. No worries.

@RushesToo If you give me an example image thread I'll look into it :) We do already reduce the image quality down, so it would be interesting to see what types of images are still quite big :)

As you can see from previous post we put a lot of effort into making sure the site is fast loading for everyone :)

There's actually some quite large images in that thread, bigger than I was expecting... I'll add this to the staff board as something to look into. Would be nice to compress these a bit further make the whole site even faster :)
