i bought a set of cobalt bits, every size from 1mm to 13mm, in 0.5mm increments, Heller i think, got them off ebay

bloody brilliant.......but i have to hide them because they get abused by other family members.......there's a tub of random HSS bits for everyone else's use :LOL:

think they were about £50, if getting a set from where ever, i wouldn't settle for anything less than cobalt, you can still sharpen them yourself......haven't had to yet thou!

+1 for cobalt, get mine free via stepson as hs works for defence maintenance firm and they chuck them all out at a set time , still like new . Also gets lots of chains straps etc for the same reason, guess its H&S but no wonder defence costs so much

Where do you hide them?

Nothing worse than a blunt drill bit, pushing for all your worth, then snap. Haven't got a favourite ............
A tin of WD40 or waste oil, helps with the cutting edge

The dewalt extreme one are very good I just find they snap a bit easy but that maybe how I use them. You can sharpen them with a bench grinder. I will look into some cobalt one but I thing the dewalt ones are

Find the Dewalt ones snap easily when the weather is cold .In the summer they seem to be better!
This what we use from Screwfix and find them brilliant.

Also use a cutting paste and that helps a lot.

Has anyone bought set from a show ? The chap that's drilling brake discs , concrete and wood with the same bit. Seen him at a couple of shows but its one of those to cheap to be true deals.

Brake disks are usualy cast iron, not too hard to drill. Any drill that will drill metal, will drill wood and concrete, though in the case of the latter, usually just the once! Material is the key to long life, I have never used cobalt bits, always hss. Drills can be sharpened easily and you dont need fancy drill sharpeners, just the knowlage of how to do the job, and a grinding wheel in good order.A tip to help sharpening, two hex nuts held together flat to flat, make a good angle checking device. The angle between the flats will be 120 deg, which is about right for general work, and you can see if the point is still in the middle, if its not, the drill will cut oversize.
