@Flossie no good telling us about it, take the tripod and do a video .................

You wont beat Honda and if you think its good on fuel, just get one with a live axle. Couple of Diesels knocking about, whatever they are like? The kids are bound to have a few pennies in the piggybank, well worth spending it on a Honda for @@Flossie, in my opinion !!

Yamaha grizzly is a good bike and not bad on fuel.
Tows well too
Had a go on my neighbours and liked it.
Ive got a 500 and love it @Hilly and @neilo like theirs I think and @Penmoel has got a 400 there is a thread on here somewhere about it, I would think at that money you'd struggle to find anything that would get anywhere near it
Mine has been good really like it, newer models are even better smoother and quieter my part time worker has a newer model to mine and its more comfortable.

When did the new ones come out? I downgraded mine to a 500 in the Spring, and like it a lot.:) Got power steering on now, as I'm getting old and infirm, and I've got used to bright yellow quads.(y)

Having worked and sold honda bikes in a previous life , you will struggle to beat what you had for reliability and ability to run on fresh air, however had a 420 here and thought they were pants and agree that the yammahas look good , but I'm hearing very good things from the family about the new honda 420 (better on fuel)
It's is fairly big as it shares the same plastics as the 500

Grizzly 450 is a good solid small bike. Nice and light, but low box to be able to tow and climb anything, and don't know if it's important, very stable, more so than the grizzly 550. Very noisy though, a bit of a drawback.

As for Honda, the 500 auto is another excellent bike, quiet, stable, super reliable, but heavy on fuel, and being discontinued soon. Haven't tried old or new 420 so can't comment on them.

Yes agree, engine braking is important, we welded the centrifugal clutch on ours (because it was gone), so it will now hold at tickover, proper job. The clutch on the gear change is plenty .........

Had enough of getting stuck with my 250es Honda,I'm after a reliable and frugal 4x4.

Are these any good ?

How slow are they in 1st gear?

Always found my honda to be too fast in 1st gear (n) always been good on fuel though.

Tia Eulb :)

I've got one, its the first quad I've had so I'm afraid I can't draw much of a comparison to anything else.
It seems generally well built, its got CVT gearbox so doesn't have any gears, it will happily move forward from about 2 to 40 mph (maybe a bit faster but I'm not that brave) without the need to change gear.
It will pull my mobile handling system around without any problems on dry flat land
Can't say I've ever been stuck and was driving through some very wet ground in the winter taking up electric fencing.

If anything concerns me about its future reliability its the electrics, in the past few days its not been starting straight away as it hasn't recognised the transponder in the key.
The rear brake light was also triggering a warning message on the display for a while but it has stopped now.
Maybe residual value could be a problem too when selling it compared to a Honda, but then its cheaper to start with so hopefully the depreciation will be about the same.
