CFE and EFA

Am I right in thinking that any voluntary greening measures that one has already put in place (removing difficult field corners from production, or wet spots for example) are not going to qualify as EFA areas? From the answers given by the Defra bod the other day (who didn't answer any of my questions by the way, I was studiously ignored) it seems that people who have done things under the Campaign for the Farmed Environment are going to be penalised for the greening measures they have already put in place voluntarily. Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick somehow?

not from what I understand, i think any area of land not in production is classed as fallow under the new EFA rulings which count towards the total % hedgerows and wild bird cover also count but classed separately to land not in production

Well I hope so, but I'm not confident that will be the case. I reckon any piece of land taken out of arable production for more than 5 years will be classified as PP if you grassed it down and just topped it every year or so and is therefore not eligible for EFA, and if you've put more permanent cover crops in such as artichoke/canary reed grass etc that won't count either.

Suppose it depends what you put the land down as on the rpa, if it's in a field down as pp then yeah would agree with you but if in a field down as arable land then sure you can fight your corner as it's still part of that field not its own field

Wildflower meadow my @rse. With literally the world and his dog walking (and sh*tting) all over it, how many rare species of plants do you think there are, or wildlife? A buttercup and dog sh*t infested nightmare.

Indeed yes...... if said "community" are that worried they should have stumped up & made the guy an offer...and cleaned up their own mess!
