What would folks reckon is on ok fee % of selling price for a house? Our house is on the market at the moment and our solicitors have quoted 6.5% estate agency fees on top of conveyancing, advertising etc. 6.5% seems steep to me

Depends on the house, local market & competition, round here it seems to be between 3-7% depending largely on the property value and the level of service offered. I'd be inclined to try and negotiate the fees down.

Costs them no more no matter how much the house sells for, round here will quote 1.5 or so, have heard of up to 3, certainly should be negotiable especially if there are competing agents, why not try for a fixed fee rather than a %age?

By coincedence I have a quote right in front of me for the agency fees for selling 2 building plots for a local charity that I help out...
1.5% if it sells, ad vertising with rigtmove and on their website, more than this is extra as is a sale board.
