My (farm) vet prescribed Metacam for a collie that was hopping lame. That’s fine, says I, I’ve got some of that already... I was told that I mustn’t give her that or I would kill her, so I begrudgingly bought an expensive bottle of Metacam syrup to squirt on her food every night.

Op's vet gives him a script for something but he doesn't know how to use it ? Our vets wouldn't do that im certain, job enough just to get anything from them despite the old annual visit job, which strange as often you get the feeling that the youngster sent to do that , has had less experience with sheep than yerself ...

He posted some good stuff and never shied away from a ' bit of a debate'.
Didn't always agree with him but I miss his posts and he would have certainly have know the why's and wherefore's about metacam for dogs.

It's sub cut for cattle but I thought it was I m for sheep. That's what I've always done. Dose rate, 1ml works wonders and have often used less with good results.
And I have given it to dogs, like 0.1ml

As I said already the 20mg/ml stuff which is the most common in the uk is licensed in Australia for sheep at 1ml per 20kg. Have a look at the Australian data sheet as attached.
As it’s off label in the UK a 28 day meat withdrawal should be observed.
