Red Diesel from a Pump at the Garage?

Apologies if this has been discussed before. I used to get diesel delivered in bulk but I've been very busy with work this year and done way less on the croft. Had some diesel in the tank that had sat too long and did some damage to the tractors fuel pump and injectors.

So now deciding to get red diesel from pump at local garage (around 2 miles away). Is it legal to drive to the garage and fill up (I only ever use the tractor on our land, nothing else but it is road registered) or would I have to go with small tanks and fill manually?

Cheers

Have a couple of places near here and you can fill a machine directly. Expect to be showing something like a vat registration form showing farming or similar proof For the first fill.

expect to pay 20 pence plus over bulk price. My bI'll delivery hadn't arrived due to snow and had to fill some cans for 124 pence (excluding vat)

Last place I saw red diesel was Gunns garage at Lettershuna. Old Duncan was also the undertaker (I assume so anyway, because there was often a coffin sitting in the workshop)

He had a lovely way of responding to how are you today?

"Aye, none too hellish thanks"

That was over 30 years ago 😭

Our local on A1 has red. Despite being reliably 15p adrift on petrol & derv (main road location), they were sluggish putting the red price up when things went silly in the spring. I went down a couple of times to save 20p on bulk. The pump tripped out at £100, but reset from kiosk. Had to go and pay and start again at £200.

They do have a lock on it to deter numpties as it's in the main bank of pumps.

There was a supermarket at Leeds had a red diesel pump. It was reported on our local Look North news programme some time ago. The pump was put out of the way and mainly used (they said) for fridge units on trucks and vans. I really don’t know if that was the case `regards the fridge units? Anyway they had a suspicion it was being used by people who shouldn’t be using it so they set up a camera. Caught quite a few taxi drivers filling up cans which they assumed would be poured into their cars later, away from anyone watching.

If this is about legally driving on the road?
Yes you can- as above subject insurance etc.
I don't know what the rule is now, but you used to be able to do 6 road miles a week on summat registered as a tractor.

Never seen red at pumps either but was discussed on another forum so must be around. As mentioned think it was more in urban areas for hire companies and builders diggers, cement mixers etc. but also the odd taxi getting caught by vosa watching them fill up. Will be less of a market now with rule use changes.

A lot of the non franchise stations round here have them for red and kero
Do a surprising trade with people just buying small quantities of kero to keep them going and mabe part time farmers that isnt needing much especially in winter as it cuts the risk of theft which happens
