Whats is your biggest challenge in running your farm right now?

Rising input costs, falling output prices, and the expectation that we should just pump out produce from the goodness of our hearts; the economic version of 'self abuse'.

Media organisations who (mostly) don't understand the many nuanced reasons for us doing what we do, and instead print any old crap from ill informed urban f**kwits under the guise of them wearing the fancy dress of a 'pressure group'.

Impending shortage of capable staff. Lots of young pretenders wanting the easy work ("I don't do any overtime on Thursdays, thats Chinese night"), but it's getting harder to find characterful grafters.

Needless paperwork: such as RT & SQC demanding 'Mass Balance' calculations to appease the EU, or having to test slug pellet spreaders on their 5th birthday. They can stick all those pointless jobsworth hoops up their own hoops, x 1000.

The new necessity that we need to employ progressively more professionals to do jobs that either didn't exist or are now part of new legislation. Land agents for 'environmental' applications, letting agents to oversee electrical reports and salmonella checks on cottage lets and all of the attendant leases and paperwork etc etc, Solicitors to slow down any simple process while they feather their nest, and accountants to oversee mandatory employee staff pension schemes that lose 15% of their value year on year while the pension fund legally robs you of 2% commission for doing an utterly shite job. A FTSE 100 tracker typically outperforms these sharp suited pricks.

And 'businesses' that seek to offer farmers 'solutions to a problem' we don't actually have, for an exorbitant fee, @dilahdan

There are more, many more, but I think you get the point.

Public perception, fair trade on import standards, Co2 being loaded on farmers, loss of bps when sfi wasn't ready, misinformed eco warriors and lobbyists, TB control, rocketing machinery costs, food security.

Just coping with the bare necessities of attending to crops to realise their full potential but at the same time having to let go all the maintenance around the farm. We used to have a spare pair of hands for that part of the business.

Greasing PTO shaft and trying to connect it on, particularly a big one with two buttons and a shaft that won’t turn. I’m usually lathered up and knackered before I’ve even got started.
Those difficult ptos i attach first so can give it all my grunt before finally backing up to machine.

MILK PRICE.

Followed by...
Increased interest rates.
Increased input costs (elec, diesel, contractor/machinery fees, etc.).
Decreased subsidy.
Threat of regulation requiring infrastructure spend (slurry store covers, etc.).

All of which could be catered for by better MILK PRICE.

Thanks @Highland Mule. I'm a software developer. My motivation is to create a tool that either saves you time or makes you more money. If it's valuable enough hopefully you'll be happy to pay for it.
In All honesty I find most technology a pain in the ar$e to use, if you do come up with something any chance of making it simple to use, that’s where most technology falls flat on its face.
Some years ago I had a computer system linked to my parlour that was quite useful. Unfortunately over time it was deemed outdated and was replaced with something much more complicated and un useable so now I am without. If you do decide to “invent” something please make it simple to use for us mere mortals and not something that needs a computer wiz kid to use
