Until they go to £500, not sure if I prefer suckered out of my crop, or greedy
How quickly can you actually empty the store, when you think you have hit the jackpot?

This whole thing of being “greedy” is different for everyone or farm. I don’t see that if someone doesn’t sell at £400 that’s being greedy. Yes sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Yes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Everything is pointing to there being a shortage. So why not wait and cash in and wait a little while longer to get a little bit more. My situation is this. I would have normally be finished grading mid Jan. I’m not starting till mid Jan this time. That’s probably a £100 a ton difference.not to be snubbed at. But if it all comes tumbling down there’s only one person to blame and that’s me. Farming is a complete gamble. We all need some good wins every now and again to keep us running.

How would most contract prices be set,are they min/ max or a set price,I presume they are like oats (but on a much larger scale)and a safe bet most years but pig sick in the bonanza year
Depends, some for example piper will be a higher price than whites. The variousmones I've heard are anywhere from 50 to 75% fixed. Some proportion of this might be at a processing price. From the Perthshire area could be 240 ex depending on how far they are going , for the packing proportion. Whites would be 220 maybe from memory. But the whites might be 50% fixed with no processing fallback. Also depends on movement month as well.

Contract prices are agreed with my customers around planting time or a bit before.
we are all family businesses and start talking about now usually.

i am not interested in trading with anybody who tries to dictate terms or where I cannot talk to the boss man, man to man. Supermarkets and multinationals are not my game thankyou.

I'm not scared to admit it, my best driest field had the worst yield. Probably be the other way round next season
Our driest were the same, they were only two we could plant in spring first as it was too wet. They came throo in about 3 weeks and looked god but just never produced. Had about 7.5t seed and 2t ware off them. That was taking the seed close to 55mm too. Last planted field in end of may was the best by far. Least 2023 is almost gone!
