Hereford Ewes Yesterday:

CULL EWES - 1787, GOATS - 72 Auctioneers - Rob Meadmore/Phil Jones A much improved entry greeted by a much improved trade and again sheep travelling a long distance to be sold at Hereford. Generally a better standard on offer, with the highest price achieved for a single pure bred ewe for some time at £245, a whole penful of 18 at £188, and several between £163 and £180. Crossbred ewes having a lift with all customers most active and animated, with both strong Texels and Suffolks from £120 to £150. Marvellous demand for Mules again with plenty of pens between £120 and £130, lighter and leaner all over £100. Hill breeds sharp, best between £80 and £90.

Unusual for Hereford, an entry of Blackface ewes proved very popular topping at £100.50, with penfuls at £80 and £86. Rams a bit subdued but still top price of £142, others at £125, £123 etc. Again a much increased entry of goats, and as every week excellent competition and prices with a top price of £148 and an average of £124.

Overall ewe average £100.55 (again up £6 on the week) Continental £245.00 Suffolk £151.00 North Country Mule £120.00 Welsh Mule £112.00 Blackface £100.50 Welsh £90.00 Cull Rams £142.00 Cull Wethers £118.00 Goats £148.00 For advice on marketing cull stock please contac

Think they were 6.20 this week but rising next week. Lambs from up here not going to Preston though, down to wales.
How does that compare to £3.14 and £3.24 live.

“Thainstone once again witnessed one of the largest entry of prime cattle in Scotland with 80 head forward topping at £2,543.40 (314p per kg) for a 810kg Limousin from Messrs Robertson, Fodderletter. Heifers peaked at 327p per kg for a 595kg Limousin cross from Messrs Brown, Auchmaliddie Mains and £2,241.10 for an outstanding 730kg Charolais cross from Messrs Shand, Cortiecram. While Bullocks reached a high of £2,259.60 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Davidson, Mill of Alvah and 324p per kg for a 625kg Limousin cross from Messrs Taylor, Boghead of Cobairdy, Forgue.”
