After the 15th of August in the second year the scheme ends you are then free to do whatever you want with the crop . The secret to getting half decent stuff in August is to top it off, as written in the conditions, as late as you can .
In 2nd year should only top between 1st March & 15th May for blackgrass.
I was wondering if with agronomist advice of heading blackgrass another toping at the end of June would be permitted? Maybe require a derogation from RPA?
15th May is about the earliest you’d want to top it. Do it just before viable seed, then it doesn’t produce much seed heads after!

Flail it down to ground 15th of May then take a cut of new growth after 15th August don’t mow to the soil

A lot of fodder unsold in local Stags online sale.
Some round hay at £24, lot not sold.
I bought 100 bales (4' round) haylage for £16.
Pit silage and Maize silage unsold.
Many lots with only very low bids, so demand really not there.

on the old CSS scheme, had a huge problem with thistles in a field, rung for a derogation to spray it. Chap came out, agreed with me, 50% thistles.

l could top them, yes, been doing that several times a year, oh.

l could use a weed wiper, no, unevenness of the field, made that unlikely to be successful, oh

spot spray, pee off, 8 acres.

and so forth, in the end l drove off, and left him in the field, then thought about it, so went back, and suggested he got his 'boss' to talk to me, he didn't like that, so agreed a derogation.

letter duly arrived, stating l could only spray, the 50% of the field, infested with thistles, this was after he had agreed the whole field was infested :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

whole field duly sprayed with forefront, job sorted, and notified them l had only sprayed the half infested with thistles.

and that is the calibre of the people who oversee the schemes, few years ago now, had some good laughs over it, but that chap, is probably quite high up now, and probably devising the SFI schemes ..................................................
