In 2nd year should only top between 1st March & 15th May for blackgrass. After the 15th of August in the second year the scheme ends you are then free to do whatever you want with the crop . The secret to getting half decent stuff in August is to top it off, as written in the conditions, as late as you can .
Flail it down to ground 15th of May then take a cut of new growth after 15th August don’t mow to the soilIn 2nd year should only top between 1st March & 15th May for blackgrass.
I was wondering if with agronomist advice of heading blackgrass another toping at the end of June would be permitted? Maybe require a derogation from RPA?
15th May is about the earliest you’d want to top it. Do it just before viable seed, then it doesn’t produce much seed heads after!
Grass must be shifting down your way I have been down Doncaster today gathering Hoggs up and it’s growing under their feet shame to bring them off tbhA lot of fodder unsold in local Stags online sale.
Some round hay at £24, lot not sold.
I bought 100 bales (4' round) haylage for £16.
Pit silage and Maize silage unsold.
Many lots with only very low bids, so demand really not there.
So much fousty hay about though , bought some decent hay today for a hundred , not great but a margin in it justA lot of fodder unsold in local Stags online sale.
