Feed Bins

Just a small point but wouldn’t it be better to go larger so you can take a full load at a time? Be considerably cheaper over the lifetime of the bin
Will need to check with the feed rep on price differences between full/part loads, but 30 ton would take 60 plus days to use at some times of the year.

Got them coming out next week, are EB worth looking at?
I have an EB and a Collinson.

Both bought second hand.

EB in 2 years, Collinson in 10+ years here.

Prefer the EB. Cake sticks to the Collinson walls, windows get clagged up, it gives trouble.

EB has no windows, you have to read the level with the sun behind it, but if you know your daily usage, not a problem.

If I were buying new, I'd go with EB.

Wouldnt deal with EB if they were the last bin manufacturer on earth, got 2x 20t + plus bin plus augers etc and because I’ve complained about their customer service on here (which was terrible at best) they won’t supply any spare parts whatever, so adapting Collinson parts and slowly swapping everything over.

You get cake stuck to EB fibreglass bins aswell, last autumn we had right nightmare to sort out!

I can't comment as bought used, but...

At least with the Collinson you don't worry about beating it to hell to get the stick cake out.

Last time we welded a lorry wheel (inc. tyre) to a JCB 3CX bucket and swung that at it. Was the safest way...

Electric concrete breaker/jack hammer on the base of the feet worked well here last time it happened to us (metal bin)

Collinsons all the way. If cheaper job needed then v-mac.
Collinsons support and quality above everyone else's.

Ps my gf has overseen many chicken farms installing feed bins and collinsons have by far been the best to deal with.

I put a 50m3 EB bin in for parlour cake so we can take an artic load with room to spare. Cost saving over an 8 wheeler load I was quoted £4/t . Only issue with our bin is knowing how much is in it. Due to the size the fibre glass is quite thick so you can’t see the level until it gets into the cone at the bottom which is thinner and holds about 4 tonnes. Parlour computer keeps a running tally so we have a fairly good idea what is left in it.
