pulled another ewe with twins off the field today...plenty of grass/shelter but think I've let my flock get to old

think this needs to be my last lambing...I'm just not good enough at the management side
You are good at the management because you recognise it's not perfect.
What you haven't noticed is that you are tired and need a break.
Stop beating your self up, reduce the herd to the bits you like and start enjoying it again.

Final one lambed

A whooping 9.5kg. Luckily I was passing her. Would of been dead. Took a bit of getting going. A full 10days after the ram was out so I’d say over cooked. Sucks like a vacuum tanker.

The last 6 were scanned as single and all bar this one had twins, a nice bonus end for a change. Makes up for the 4 lost in a dog attack 10 days ago.

Thanks @Wood field for the thread.

Not my doing I’m afraid, though it’s been a brilliant thread with both sad and funny moments.

Think summer is next week, the sun's supposed to be out and no rain. Make the most of it...it won't last 🙄
I’m going to get as many vaccinated, wormed and cooked as possible. Some good lambs about now but a far to many struggling lambs, just been to cold for them to thrive and now getting hit with worms and cocci ( only cocci the poor doers as it’s to dear to do the big 20kg healthy lambs).

I'll be looking to dag the dirty ewes, the wet grass seems to pass through them too quick, worm the lambs and dysect the whole flock. Most of my lambs are doing well, don't like loosing them, especially for unknown reasons. What to you use for cocci?
Is that 3000 Hoggs booked in for you to shear yourself? I could cope with that number if you knocked two zeros off the end of it😀

Just cull hard, ewes are better killed in their prime, had some away this week at £150 a piece which is as much as they’d of made as hoggs so you’re just swapping old for young

that's where I've gone wrong..
only latterly realising....my lot were so thrifty it hid it....but suddenly🙄
Been there , done that.
Now reared all our own replacements, not as profitable at first ( as not selling as many lambs) but despite this years f**k ups , the ewes are young and fit, and rearing their lambs.
Don’t give up !

Never! Just get tough on culling. You'll get the same lambs from fewer sheep. It was mental when I came here, if they still had 4 legs they got put to the tup, it's easy to get working so hard you don't have time to sit and think. Massive amount of stupid work to keep everything alive, which we didn't.
4ish crop is max here going forward.
I think the majority of the issues this time was from old gals. Problem is I am unsure of the age of the early buy-ins!

We were fairly tough on teeth n'tits checks last Autumn, but not tough enough! I am not keen on purchasing any replacements, IF we have another lambing. Probably enough coming through...

No got the professionals in to do them. I can shear but those 2 will do them in 3 days, would take me a few weeks.

Flopping mastitis….two today🤬

cold night two days ago and 32mm of rain probably not helped.

Lambs big enough to cope I hope. Good grass in front and creep.
I still like to bring the lambs in for a few days to watch their intake of creep before letting back out,
just because there is creep in the field doesn't mean they eat it.
