    Urea Stewardship

I don't think many FACTS qualified advisors will be willing to put their neck on the block, so your only option is to add an inhibitor (or flaunt the crazy rule). About £4/ha for the liquid I am using (last application of 3). More concerned about the scorch risk to be honest.

    Fertilizing winter cereal

Got 60kgs N on as liquid 2 weeks ago. Crops are now green again, apart from barley, but that is sat very wet. Surprised some is still alive. Wheats started going backwards big time 3 weeks ago, so glad I made a mess in places to get some on. Will be a while before can travel again

The what I f^cked up today thread...

I managed to make the 999 call by mistake as well. Was busy sweeping a bin out, phone in pocket, singing away to myself. They phoned, asking if all was ok. I apologised profusely, at which point the chap said ‘so you bloody should with a voice like that’. They explained that even with keypad...

Cutting hedgerows from 1 March onwards

I haven’t managed to cut half my hedges due to the wet…..oh well, I’ll do them next year. There is enough grief in the job without going to look for it, leave them alone.

    Nature Notes

I am no expert, but have a very successful box on the outside of my workshop. I had a male roosting in the shed, and asked my owl man what to do. He suggested a box on a nearby willow, as apparently they like a clear view out from the nest site. I ignored him, and put up a box on the back of the...

Get a box up in a suitable spot. If he is roosting there, obviously likes the area.

    Horses..

When I was a kid, our ponies ate grass or hay, grew a coat in winter to keep warm, and got on with it. I now ‘sponsor’ 3 of the things. They have more clothes than I do, food is a cocktail of overpriced ingredients and remedies, the farrier, dentist, physio etc etc. Makes a few days shooting...

Steel used by jd for combine headed skids

Not if you’ve got any flint. Used some springs on a flat 8 sledge many years ago, and had 2 good fires baling straw. Couldn’t work it out, until walking alongside…..sparks everywhere🤦‍♂️

    Heavy snow next week

It’s quite nice for a days shooting as well👍

Campbell - Tickell Consultancy - are they qualified?

I gave them the benefit of doubt, and suggested it had been written by a 12 year old😂

A vision of farming in 2030

I don’t make my own bed, I’m certainly not cleaning toilets, and my driving is awful, so I might be in trouble☹️

    Whose heading out

I always used to say ‘if your not in bed by 10’…..then you might as well go home.

Abi and Farmers Weekly, more Red Tractor revelations

I don’t have a PayPal account either, but managed to join. I’m a complete technophobe, but from memory it should allow you to pay via a temporary account if you follow the links.

    show us your christmas tree

Best part about Christmas is I can go out hedgecutting those awkward road side bits without all the traffic…….apart from all the bl@@dy cyclists…..they don’t like the puncture seeds😂
