Any Apple wizards? iMessage issues iphone and ipad

We got An iphone for our daughter’s birthday and I tried to set it up yesterday.

She’s been using my ipad for imessaging up to now, to her friends at primary school. My ipad has no SIM card so it’s been messaging over wifi, no probs at all. We got the iphone thinking it would work exactly the same way, but it doesn’t seem to. She has her own email address now and we’ve added all the same contacts, but it refuses to message some of her contacts. We worked out last night that it would communicate with friends who had a phone with a SIM card but wouldn’t message other ipads that didn‘t have a SIM.

Is this just how it is? ie do iphones and ipads work differently wrt to this? Or what am I doing wrong? Help please.

Your iPad will be connected to you phone/apple account. Unless you’re going to connect her phone to your apple account you’ll need to set up her own account to use IMessage in its own right.

We started her phone from scratch. We set it up with me as parent/guardian but everything else was just for her. So we didn’t sync my apps, contacts, etc. She has her own email address so I’m baffled. I’m not an Apple fan at all, find Android much easier but her friends have Apple products so hence the purchase.

Go to settings - Messages - send & receive - then check the number/email you want to use for IMessage is ticked.

Ps. make sure IMessage is actually turned on it’s also under the message tab.

Thanks. Tried that and it has her correct email address, so that can’t be the problem.
